Acadia: Millcreek of Magee Therapeutic Day School
Located in a small community southeast of Jackson, Magee, Mississippi, is Acadia’s Millcreek of Magee. It is a therapeutic community for adolescents and young adults struggling with behavioral concerns and mental illness. Amongst the programs provided at this facility is the Therapeutic Day School, which accommodates clients in three different locations throughout the state. The day school operates on a phase system. This allows for clients to discover positive benefits from appropriate behaviors and earn a series of privileges. The school based programming through Millcreek is offered in two facilities in addition to Magee—Meadville and Clinton.
Treatment and Staff
The day program provides students a series of supportive services. This includes bi-monthly individual therapy sessions, and an in-depth group therapy program. The groups address issues like establishing healthy boundaries, learning new social skills, problems at home, how to live independently, and stress and behavioral management.
In addition to the evidence-based therapeutic protocols, there are also a number of recreational activities scheduled on a regular basis, along with music therapy and art projects.
The phase system is broken down into four stages—exploration, knowledge, motivation and achievement. This system works to promote positive transformation through informed decision making. Along with this system clients receive medication management and frequent meetings with the staff psychiatrist or nurse to assess their progress with the proper medicine.
Staff is comprised of accredited teachers, LPCs, LCSWs, psychologists, LPNs, recreational therapists, occupational therapists and psychiatrists.
Extras
The day program provides transportation for clients who live within a certain proximity to one of the three facilities.
Family therapy takes place at least twice a month, and is available on a more frequent basis if needed.

The therapeutic day school targets young people who have struggled in traditional school settings in the past. The school offers small, personalized class environments that are motivating and encouraging for clients and their families. At the end of the day program, the students have learned new coping skills that set a foundation for recovery. This program emphasizes that clients do have the opportunity for long term recovery with a solid foundation that is established throughout their treatment.
