Acadia: Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Center of Maine Review
Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Center is a national network of outpatient facilities providing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals struggling with opioid addiction. Discovery House has four locations in the state of Maine—Bangor, Calais, South Portland and Waterville—where clients also participate in therapeutic activities to support a rounded recovery experience. The facilities are CARF-accredited.
As a member of the Acadia Healthcare network, Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Center is just one of many behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.
Treatment and Staff
DHCTC provides individualized treatment approaches, and clients are admitted following an initial screening assessment with intake staff which determines their current health status and the presence of any co-occurring disorders. The assessment also helps devise the MAT protocol, including the type of medication best suiting their needs: Methadone, Subutex or Suboxone. If the client is on any other medications or requires dual diagnosis support, they are carefully monitored by the medical staff and adjustments may be made as required.
In addition to MAT, staff also encourages clients to attend therapeutic activities. Group and individual therapy is offered to support mental and emotional recovery as clients progress physically.
The treatment team includes LCDCs as well as a medical staff with Physicians and RNs. Staff use evidence-based treatment methods as well as some 12-step principles within the therapeutic framework. Clients are given resources for community-based support, which includes AA/NA meetings.
Extras
As members of both the Acadia and Discovery House network, clients requiring more intensive treatment or who are seeking other types of support that fall beyond the scope of MAT and general outpatient care are referred out to trusted resources.
