Abbeycare Scotland Overview
Abbeycare Foundation is a reputable treatment network in the UK. One of many facilities associated with this network, Abbeycare’s Scotland Clinic is located between the historic and beautiful towns of Edinburgh and Glasgow. It offers medically supervised detox and residential treatment or adults struggling with addiction. Each client has a personalized treatment plan that includes 12-step support and holistic methods.
Accommodations and Food
Clients reside in the historic Murdostoun Castle, which is is set on over 40 acres of land and is absolutely exquisite. The facility can fit 20 clients, all of whom have their own room with en suite bathrooms. The multi-story castle offers several amenities like a game room with pool table, several lounges and sitting rooms, and areas where clients can relax and watch a movie. In addition there are a few kitchens and dining rooms, and clients have access to local gyms and swimming pools.
All food is prepared on site by a professional chef who is able to create healthy and delicious meals, some of which are made to order to suit a client’s particular tastes.
Treatment and Staff
Just like in the other Abbeycare locations, there is a medical detox that is monitored 24 hours a day to ensure each client’s safety and comfort. This initial stage of treatment does not officially have a time limit. Clients stay in this stage until they are free and clean of the substance they were using and are able to participate in the residential stage of treatment.
Once in the next step, the main aspect of treatment takes place in a group setting. There are several group sessions per day that cover relapse prevention, coping skills and psychoeducation. There is a visiting psychiatrist at the facility several times a week to assess and offer medication management for dual diagnosis clients.
Therapeutic approaches at Abbeycare include CBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and DBT. There are daily 12-step meetings held on site, and clients meet with their therapist regularly to go over treatment goals.
There is a multidisciplinary team of clinicians who offer their expertise in terms of helping clients with a myriad of addictions and mental health disorders. There are nurses on site who offer medictiaton assistance, and psychologists who run the therapy sessions.
Extras
There is an aftercare program that meets in Edinburgh every Wednesday evening. This is ongoing and open to any graduates of the program.
In addition, Abbeycare has a family program and employer support for an extended period of time.

The Scotland branch of Abbeycare provides a structured treatment in accommodations that about as upscale as one can get. Clients are given several group options throughout the week, in addition to time to connect to other clients and form a bond.
