Hello House for Women Review
Hello House for Women is a long-term residential treatment program for women seeking recovery from addiction. Based out of Boston, the facility is operated under the umbrella of Volunteers of America Massachusetts, a state-funded program that provides a wide range of affordable behavioral health services to clients throughout the state.
Accommodations and Food
The organization has two residential homes, one in Dorchester and one in Jamaica Plain, with 28 beds available in total. While the layouts of each home differ somewhat, both include bedrooms shared between two to three clients with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. Each house also has shared common areas with cable TV, outdoor areas, on-site laundry and a fully equipped kitchen. Though Hello House provides all food for residents, clients work together to cook and prepare meals for the entire house.
Treatment and Staff
All incoming clients can expect to undergo an assessment prior to beginning treatment so Hello House staff can create an individualized treatment plan. Though detox isn’t available, those in need can get referrals to outside facilities. While each client’s program may differ, in general programs last for four to six months and include gender-specific care.
Residents attend both group and individual therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition to therapy, staff members also provide extensive case management services to help clients resolve any relevant legal issues, find jobs and develop aftercare plans as necessary. Throughout their stay, all residents also regularly attend 12-step meetings in the community. Though some support for co-occurring disorders like depression and anxiety may be available, those with more severe mental health issues may need to seek additional help elsewhere.
The staff at Hello House for Women consists of psychiatric nurses, MSWs, LPCs, CADCs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Volunteers of America Massachusetts provides other low-cost programs including assisted living homes for senior citizens, standalone mental health counseling, veterans services and criminal re-entry programs.
In Summary
Hello House for Women is an affordable, well-rounded program for women ready to break free from the confines of substance abuse and addiction. Treatment lasts longer than some competing residential programs and includes a balanced mix of 12-step recovery, evidence-based care and extensive case management support. For those in the area seeking an affordable, structured treatment option, Hello House for Women is a resource worth considering.
