ASFC Outreach Therapeutic Counseling Review
Located in the Atlanta suburb of Covington, Georgia, ASFC Outreach Therapeutic Counseling offers comprehensive behavioral health and substance abuse outpatient treatment programs. Founder AC Clark, a lifelong community activist, established ASFC in 2003 after working with local at-risk adolescents, eventually expanding the facility to welcome families and adults as well. The CARF-accredited programs at ASFC are for those seeking treatment for drug and alcohol use as well at individuals with co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
ASFC offers clients an outpatient track, though beginning in January 2016 an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) will be provided as well. All the treatment is designed on an individualized basis, with a combination of both individual and group therapy and using the 12 steps. Clients begin with an in-person assessment. Those in need of less intensive care can be placed into a corresponding outpatient track, where they have individual therapy sessions once a week or a relapse prevention group that meets twice a week in the evenings. If IOP is a better fit, participation in three group sessions for about three hours a week for 16 weeks is expected in addition to attending outside AA or NA meetings. The groups are a mix of men and women and typically stay under 10 people at a time.
Those with co-occurring disorders are eligible for a psychiatric evaluation with a staff psychiatrist in order to receive medication management services. Though medication is not available at the facility, clients can receive referrals to an off-site agency. Counselors may use different therapeutic methods depending on the client, like the Stages of Change model, CBT, DBT, coping skills, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), anger management and stress management skills.
The experienced staff at ASFC are made up of LCSWs, LPCs, LADCs, LMSWs, psychologists, psychiatrists and nurses.
Extras
ASFC offers family and couples counseling on an individual basis. The facility also participates in outreach programs and provides a veterans program with emphasis on treatment for PTSD. ASFC also provides court-ordered classes for anger management or services for those who have received a DUI. Spanish language programs are also available.
In Summary
ASFC provides individualized care that acknowledges each client has a different experience with addiction. Though each client’s program may be slightly different, each receives the personalized tools they need to maintain their sobriety. Overall, ASFC is a great choice for highly individualized treatment in the suburbs of Atlanta.
