Peaceful Ridge Recovery—a 20-minute drive from Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the town of Davie—describes its treatment as a combination of outpatient and supportive housing, or “non-hospital-based residential,” to avoid the connotations of hospitalization. The program caters to an executive crowd and, while it is evidence– and science-based, it also offers holistic treatment that targets the body and mind.
Accommodations and Food
Peaceful Ridge Recovery is located in a modern, cozy home that, rather like Davie itself, is half Western ranch, half tropical. The house is tastefully decorated and surrounded by lush foliage. Residents may share rooms or have their own rooms (space permitting). While the house itself is spacious, Peaceful Ridge Recovery offers plenty of room to roam outside as well. On-site amenities include a large common area with a big screen TV, a basketball court, a Jacuzzi and a gym.
Peaceful Ridge Recovery’s meal service resembles that of a bed and breakfast. All meals are prepared by private chefs and are cooked to order. Residents eat a hot breakfast, which usually include eggs of some kind, and may have an entree featuring steak, chicken or fish for lunch and dinner. Fruits and vegetables are available at every meal.
Treatment and Staff
Peaceful Ridge Recovery is evidence-based, individualized and holistic and features medically supervised detox with non-addictive medication. It also offers treatment for those suffering from co-occurring disorders as well as co-occurring physical conditions (such as cancer, diabetes and chronic pain).
Treatment at Peaceful Ridge Recovery begins with the medically supervised detox that lasts about five to seven days, during which residents take non-addictive medications like Naltrexone and Vivadone.
After they have stabilized, clients begin a regimen of CBT, DBT, individual therapy, group therapy and addiction education on topics such as the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain and on the body. Peaceful Ridge Recovery offers specific group therapies for those who have been victims of emotional, sexual or physical abuse or have recently experienced grief or loss. It does not offer AA or NA meetings or openly discuss a Higher Power.
Another treatment program is for marijuana addiction. Peaceful Ridge Recovery believes that marijuana can be addicting and because society does not generally acknowledge marijuana addiction, those who suffer from it tend to avoid seeking treatment, or seek treatment that might not fit their needs. Treatment includes not only an individualized plan of therapy but also education specifically about marijuana addiction.
A typical day varies quite a bit because of their individualized programs, but usually includes a few group therapy sessions, addiction education, an experiential therapy or two such as meditation or yoga, recreational activities and the occasional one-on-one therapy session.
Staff includes a psychiatrist, two psychologists, a medical director specializing in internal medicine who is also an addictionologist, two MFTs, administrative staff and 24-hour a day nurses and nurses assistant. The staff have more than 100 years of experience collectively, and the staff-to-resident ratio is about one-to-one.
Extras
The program includes experiential therapies such as mindfulness, yoga, acupuncture, Tai Chi, massage therapy, dolphin therapy and equine therapy (which includes access to nearby horse trails), all available at no extra cost.
Residents at Peaceful Ridge Recovery are welcome to invite their families to participate in family therapy. These sessions occur in groups and individually and aim to open up lines of communications and repair damaged relationships.
Those who finish any of their programs are encouraged to return for aftercare, which involves attending a structured group meeting once a week for an hour and a half.
Peaceful Ridge Recovery also offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for those seeking daily treatment without moving into their facility. The program requires a nine-hour per week minimum commitment to treatment.
