Orchard Recovery Center Review
Located on Bowen Island, British Columbia, Orchard Recovery Center runs a series of residential programs, accommodating clients anywhere from 10 to 90 days. Since 2002, the CARF-accredited program has provided detox and comprehensive treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
Situated on four acres of rainforest, the co-ed residential compound has a resort-like atmosphere and can accommodate up to 25 at a time. Both private and double occupancy rooms are available, each outfitted with queen beds and fireplaces. There is also a lounge area with a central stone fireplace, a seasonal swimming pool and a fully-equipped gym for residents to use. There are nature trails surrounding the property for hiking and a serenity garden where clients can relax and meditate.
A team of chefs provide three meals a day with an emphasis on both health and flavor. Dishes feature plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, often organic having been grown in the facility’s garden. Coffee is permitted and all meal plans are designed by a staff dietitian who accommodates dietary restrictions upon request.
Treatment and Staff
Programs begin with an initial assessment followed by placement in an appropriate treatment plan. If needed, detox is available, as is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). The residential programs work with both holistic and evidence-based modalities including yoga, mindfulness training, music and art therapy. All treatment incorporates group and individual therapy, 12-step integration and life skills seminars.
Staff consists of about 40 different treatment professionals including MDs, psychiatrists, art and yoga therapists, recovery coaches, CADCs, social workers and Master’s-level therapists.
Extras
Beyond primary care, Orchard Recovery offers flexible aftercare programs where alumni can continue to receive medical and psychiatric support. This generally consists of weekly check-ups that gradually decrease to monthly appointments for up to a year. In addition, there are often social gatherings, such as alumni dinners, to look forward to after treatment is complete.
The program also offers extensive family programming options.
