Located on Bowen Island, British Columbia, Orchard Recovery Center runs a series of residential programs, accommodating clients anywhere from 10 to 90 days. Since 2002, the CARF-accredited program has provided detox and comprehensive treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders.

Accommodations and Food

Situated on four acres of rainforest, the co-ed residential compound has a resort-like atmosphere and can accommodate up to 25 at a time. Both private and double occupancy rooms are available, each outfitted with queen beds and fireplaces. There is also a lounge area with a central stone fireplace, a seasonal swimming pool and a fully-equipped gym for residents to use. There are nature trails surrounding the property for hiking and a serenity garden where clients can relax and meditate.

A team of chefs provide three meals a day with an emphasis on both health and flavor. Dishes feature plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, often organic having been grown in the facility’s garden. Coffee is permitted and all meal plans are designed by a staff dietitian who accommodates dietary restrictions upon request.

Treatment and Staff

Programs begin with an initial assessment followed by placement in an appropriate treatment plan. If needed, detox is available, as is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). The residential programs work with both holistic and evidence-based modalities including yoga, mindfulness training, music and art therapy. All treatment incorporates group and individual therapy, 12-step integration and life skills seminars.

Staff consists of about 40 different treatment professionals including MDs, psychiatrists, art and yoga therapists, recovery coaches, CADCs, social workers and Master’s-level therapists.

Extras

Beyond primary care, Orchard Recovery offers flexible aftercare programs where alumni can continue to receive medical and psychiatric support. This generally consists of weekly check-ups that gradually decrease to monthly appointments for up to a year. In addition, there are often social gatherings, such as alumni dinners, to look forward to after treatment is complete.

The program also offers extensive family programming options.

In Summary

Orchard Recovery Center offers the perfect mixture of solid substance abuse treatment with peaceful, rural surroundings—making it an ideal choice to begin the journey of recovery. With programs designed to be intensive but flexible in length and schedule, clients may customize plans to fit a variety of needs.

  1. 19 months of sobriety and life is good again.. Before finely admitting defeat over my addiction and entering The Orchard Recovery my life had become a nightmare . I had pretty much been smoking weed as well as other drugs and alcohol daily for over 40 years.. Somewhere around 20 years ago I stopped using the harder type drugs and alcohol but continued to smoke weed every day from dawn till dusk. I had convinced myself that smoking pot was fine and was actually good for me ,it was like a medicine that helped me in my insane life, I didn’t know how to live life on life’s terms .. But really it just made me isolate and perinoide from daily issues family friends etc . Then when craft beers started to become popular my brain convinced me that I could start drinking again becouse they were organic with no preservatives .. So from drinking one or two beers every other day and smoking weed everyday I ended up in a very short time to drinking and smoking weed everyday hiding from my family friends .. I could go on and on but until I was finally going to lose everything I really cared about in life ..I was finally ready to seek help.. The Orchard and it’s staff ,doctors ,therapy groups , food, accomadations ,made it possible to concentrate on getting healed and recovered and to learn how to live a totally happy and saine productive life again ..I highly recommend The Orchard to anyone who needs to deal with their addiction problems!! But you must be ready and willing or it’s not going to work .. Thanks to everyone involved with The Orchard 👍👍👍

  2. Today I am celebrating 5 years clean and sober and it’s thanks to the Orchard Recovery Centre on Bowen Island. There is no question in my mind that the Orchard saved my life.
I entered the Orchard sick and full of fear and was greeted with so much kindness by the staff and the other people who were already in the program. After meeting with the doctor and nurses I felt safe and understood. My room was nice and the food was really fantastic. By the fourth day, I was fully participating in all programming and in my second week, I started working out in the fully equipped fitness center. As I look back on what my life was like five years ago compared to where I am today I am overwhelmed with gratitude to the Orchard. I had felt like I was letting everyone in my life down because was going be away from my family at Christmas but it turned out to be the best decision I ever made.

  3. I was at the Orchard in early 2017 and want to thank all the staff, nurses and doctors for the care and attention I received. I was a mess and certainly not easy to be around. People took the time to help me settle and where patient when I was argumentative and mean. All my planning focused on my goals and what I needed to do to address my issues and keep me sober. Nothing was easy and nor should it have been. I found the staff professional and authentic. People cared about me and really wanted me to succeed for me. I have remained true to my recover journey and thank everyone at the Orchard for helping me see the potential in me

  4. I appreciated my time and support received from my stay at the Orchard. I was in dyer straights and needed a program that would help me address my needs and provide the guidance I needed to change my life. That is what I got from my time with the Orchard. Staff were sensitive and attentive to what I was going through and work with my family helped me to start to make amends and heal. What I learned was that my recovery is all about what I need to do for me and how I need to stay on top of doing the work. Keeping to my program and working my program. I am deeply indebted to the Orchard for helping me find my way and giving me the support needed to stay true to my choice to live a life of sobriety

  5. I was at the Orchard over a year ago, and I am proud to say I am still clean and sober today. They match you up with a counsellor and step coach who is going to fit your personality, and I had Jason. His straight up, “no BS” style was really exactly what I needed to get through to me, even when I had to hear things about my actions that I didn’t want to. It wasn’t easy for me to sit down and deal with the guilt I felt from the hurt I had caused others, and the damage I’d done. It was almost enough to make me leave treatment less than a week in, but I stuck with their program and learned so much. I found self-acceptance, and eventually peace. Full of gratitude for the amazing staff there for putting up with me… it saved my life. I’ve gone back for two Alumni events so far, and can’t wait for the alumni Christmas gathering too.

  6. Terrible. This place is a glossy money making factory. Certian staff members were unqualified and highly unethical. The man who leads the psychodrama class is not a registered clinical counselor and forces people to sign waivers. Sick people who are vulnerable sign these forms without having the proper knowledge of what they’re getting into. This man then would call clients into his “office” and offer his sales pitch asking for $1500 to take his role playing classes. Certain practices that took place would never be tolerated in a government facility. Sick people are being taken advantage of. They also promised to follow up once a month with you for a year to track your progress, which they did not do. Save your money.

  7. I was at you centre in 2007 plus or minus a year. Upon my exiting I was told that I would not last more than 6 months by my counselor without relapse. She was right because I had trusted her during my recovery. She predicted my relapse. No followup of support just, you will relapse.
Your recovery centre is a wonderful location but it didn’t work for me. No followup, staff that tells you that you are going to relapse and just thank you for your money for as long as you want to stay there. Not much real treatment..AA doesn’t work with everyone. There are alternatives.
