The Basics
Sunshine Recovery Center is a West Palm Beach, Florida based outpatient treatment facility that utilizes the Matrix Model along with relapse prevention, holistic approaches like horticultural therapy, and 12-step support. Programming includes all levels of outpatient including a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance abuse and behavioral health concerns. Treatment includes group and individual therapy and aftercare planning all within a safe atmosphere for adults.
Treatment and Staff
Each of the treatment plans are individualized so the length of time that clients can expect to be in treatment varies, though on average tracks run for about two to three months. The PHP is the most intensive level with the step-down track being the IOP. The PHP is a day treatment that runs five days a week for up to six hours a day. Each level of care emphasizes the importance of regaining one’s self esteem, learning coping skill and life skills, and finding a new sense of self worth. The IOP is usually nine hours or so of treatment every week over the course of three days. In both tracks there is at least one individual session for an hour along with several group sessions.
Therapeutic methods includes Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, DBT and other evidence-based approaches. There are regular AA/NA meetings and teachings on site and clients are required to attend three or four community meetings off-site per week once they reach the IOP phase. Sunshine Recovery also provides access to SMART Recovery and Celebrate Recovery meetings. There are specific life skills groups and co-occurring disorder treatment, and educational lectures that cover biomedical and denial management.
Staff is comprised of clinical specialists who are well versed in addiction and co-occurring disorders including Master’s-level CADCs and LPCs.
Extras
A particularly unique aspect of the treatment at Sunshine Recovery Center is the horticultural therapy program in which clients engage new skills and use gardening as a therapeutic and calming activity. Additional holistic methods include art and music therapy, stress management techniques, expressive therapy and experiential approaches.
The aftercare program offers once a week group sessions and alumni meetings. Staff can also provide work placement assistance and vocational training options and case management services. Treatment also includes family counseling and education.

It operates with the understanding that every client’s unique treatment path is their own and does not hold anyone to a particular plan or require staying in treatment for a specific amount of time.
