The Basics
Pura Vida is a multi-faceted behavioral health organization based out of Santa Rosa, California. Though its flagship treatment programs are sober living homes in Santa Rosa and Novato, clients can also attend outpatient treatment through Pura Vida’s counseling facility—both Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) are available.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their care plans. Detox services are not available on site but referrals to nearby programs are available as necessary. The most intensive treatment option is the PHP or day treatment track, which meets for a minimum 20 hours a week typically from 3 to 8 pm. IOP meets only nine hours a week, generally three times from 5 to 8 pm.
In both of the above, clients attend regular group and individual therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Group sessions cover topics including relationship skills, addiction education, personal accountability, social skills, 12-step recovery concepts and relapse prevention. While AA/NA teachings are often encouraged in these programs, they are not always required. Basic dual diagnosis support including medication management is also available. All outpatient participants must also submit to regular and random drug and alcohol testing.
The staff at Pura Vida Recovery Services consists of CADCs, LPCs, case managers, psychologists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
As mentioned, Pura Vida also has several several sober living homes in the area which can be attended in conjunction with outpatient treatment—there are also scholarships available for these facilities. Other services include standalone drug and alcohol screenings, vocational skills training and resumé building classes. Finally, those seeking aftercare can work with staff to step down the intensity of their programs.

In all, Pura Vida’s outpatient programs provide basic, flexible care for clients seeking recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. Treatment includes 12-step support, evidence-based care and treatment for co-occurring disorders; those in need of even more structure can also live at a sober living while attending treatment. Though the cost of each program may vary by insurance, Pura Vida’s outpatient options are worth considering for those in the area.
