Multiplan Mental Health and Drug Rehab Coverage Guide

Behavioral health is something that health insurance plans usually cover along with providing coverage for physical health. Behavioral health is the catch-all term for behavioral disorders, substance use disorders and mental health disorders.

These disorders can be chronic or recurring, and can be very disruptive to your life. It’s also possible to have more than one of these disorders, which can create more difficulty in your life. Fortunately, behavioral health provides treatment for these disorders to help you manage them.

The Multiplan network of providers includes this type of care to make it more accessible and affordable.

Behavioral Health: Alcohol and Drug Rehab, Mental Health Care and Behavioral Health Care

Behavioral health includes a range of disorders that are classified separately from physical health conditions and diseases. It includes mental health, behavioral health, and substance abuse and addiction.

Mental health is a vast area. Common mental health disorders include depression and anxiety, but this classification also includes schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders and other disorders that affect mental health.

Behavioral disorders include disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder.

Substance use disorder is also classified under behavioral health. This disorder incorporates substance abuse and addiction, ranging from mild to severe cases. It could include problems with alcohol, prescription medications and illicit substances such as heroin or cocaine. The term substance use disorder is often adjusted to the type of substance you are using, so your case could be classified as alcohol use disorder or opioid use disorder, for instance.

Behavioral health provides treatment for these different types of disorders. It can help through treatment that is individual to your situation.

Is Multiplan Insurance Good?

Multiplan is not a health insurance plan but rather a network of medical providers that offer discounted services. Health insurance plans can use this network to give their members more provider choices. In this case, providers could include professionals offering office visits, outpatient treatment programs and inpatient treatment centers.

Having Multiplan available will broaden the options you have when you’re looking for a behavioral health provider. This is good news because more options will help you find the best treatment program or center for your needs. Also, some areas are lacking in treatment options, so having a broader network can help ensure you have some form of treatment available to you. In many cases, the Multiplan network extends the health insurance plan’s coverage to include out-of-network providers and to extend to additional locations.

Through this service, you’re offered additional regional providers and a national primary PPO network, which gives you the option of traveling to a quality inpatient program where you could live during your treatment. This allows you to compare the highest quality programs around the country and find the best fit for yourself.

Multiplan Substance Abuse Coverage

Substance abuse is a main type of behavioral health that is covered under insurance plans. It is one of the services provided within Multiplan’s network. It’s possible to find addiction professionals and treatment centers under Multiplan’s network of providers.

Nonetheless, you would need to check whether the network will give you the type of treatment you are looking for. For example, you may be looking for a therapist, an inpatient detox center, a drug rehab program or a different type of provider. You can use Multiplan’s tool to search for providers. Before you move forward with treatment, check with your insurance company to find out whether you need to get pre-authorized for this type of treatment and if there are other stipulations.

Multiplan Alcohol Rehab Centers

If you’re specifically looking for treatment for an alcohol use disorder, you should be able to find a provider through Multiplan’s network. You would need to look up Multiplan providers in your area that offer substance abuse treatment, and then make sure that the ones you’re interested in provide treatment for alcohol.

Alcohol use disorder is common, so it’s likely that general treatment centers will provide behavioral health treatment for it. Use the provider search tool to look through available detox and rehab treatment providers. Like with other substance abuse treatment, you’ll want to check on pre-authorization and other criteria.

Does Multiplan Cover Mental Health Treatment?

Yes, Multiplan does provide mental health providers within its network. You can find a list of therapists and other mental health providers, and you may be able to find a mental health treatment center if needed. You can search for a mental health provider in your area by using the Multiplan provider search tool. Just remember to check on pre-authorization and other criteria before moving forward.

Your situation may differ if you have a co-occurring mental disorder on top of a substance use disorder. In this case, you may want to look for a drug recovery program that provides alcohol and drug rehab along with mental health services. It is more effective to treat both problems instead of just one.

Should I Choose a Multiplan In-Network Provider or Out-of-Network Provider?

This answer will depend on your health insurance plan. Multiplan may be in-network or out-of-network depending on your plan. This is referring to providers, which are the professionals and facilities offering you health services. A provider could be a doctor, a therapist, a detox or rehab center, or another option.

Health insurance plans have a primary network of health providers. You search under your health insurance plan and find in-network providers. In many cases, your health insurance company, such as Aetna or Cigna, will provide your primary network, while Multiplan provides out-of-network providers to increase your options. Sometimes, Multiplan will be your primary network instead, which means that its list of health professionals and facilities would be in-network providers. You will know whether Multiplan is your primary network because your health insurance identification card will say “PPO” after the Multiplan logo.

It matters whether you pick in-network or out-of-network providers because of the cost. Your insurance plan will cover a higher portion of the cost of in-network providers, so you will save money. The reason you would look at out-of-network providers is to increase your options. You may not be satisfied with the list of providers inside your plan’s network, so you can look at the increased options offered through out-of-network providers. Or you may want to go to a specific professional or treatment center, and you can see whether it can be covered out-of-network. While this option will cost more than an in-network provider, your insurance plan will still pay a portion of the cost. Therefore, this option is still better than covering the entire cost on your own.

Check your health plan’s statement of benefits or other resources to determine the cost difference between using an in-network or out-of-network provider. You may have a different deductible for each, and then the plan will most likely feature different copays or coinsurance amounts depending on the type of network.

Should I Choose Multiplan Providers or My Health Insurance Providers?

In many cases, Multiplan will provide out-of-network providers and your health insurance plan will provide the in-network providers. Because of this, it’s smart to consider the providers offered under your health insurance plan rather than ignoring them in favor of Multiplan’s network. You’ll be able to save money by using these primary providers.

Think about the type of treatment you’re looking for, and get a professional assessment if you’re not sure. Do you need mental health counseling, drug detox, drug rehab, alcohol detox or rehab, or another type? Start with one, such as detox, and search for detox providers under your primary network with your health insurance plan, such as Aetna. Then, search for detox providers under Multiplan. Compare your options as well as your plan’s coverage for in-network and out-of-network treatment. This will help you make the best decision.

Having a broad network of providers can help ensure that you get the best treatment to fit your needs and preferences. By utilizing your health insurance and Multiplan network, you can get help with the cost of treatment, making it easier to get the help you need.
