Farrington Specialty Counseling Review
Farrington Specialty Counseling is an outpatient eating disorder clinic located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Farrington offers specialized counseling services that address common eating disorders, such as bulimia and anorexia, as well as compulsive exercising and body image concerns, along with co-occurring disorders. Treatment primarily consists of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a new binge eating IOP, known as BE-IOP. These programs are individualized and utilize evidence-based protocols within group and individual therapy settings. Farrington is committed to treating both males and females of all ages.
Treatment and Staff
The initial assessment process can begin with a phone call to Farrington, followed by an in-person intake at the facility. The IOP is an eight week program that includes three hour-long sessions, three times a week. This track takes place in a group setting the majority of the time, with an additional individual session one time per week. The IOP offers nutritional counseling and exposure therapy techniques, like group outings to a restaurant. There are also scheduled meals and snacks during the sessions.
The BE-IOP is a six week track that also totals nine hours per week of therapy and activities. This program emphasizes the importance of intuitive eating and mindfulness. Both of these intensive programs are individualized and operated by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians.
The self image intensive group and the step-down outpatient group both run for approximately six weeks. These groups meet twice a week for about two hours, and clients still attend weekly individual therapy. The self image track is a bit more experiential and expressive, utilizing art and music therapy, psychodrama and movement. This program is designed for those who are on the path to recovery and have already attended a more intensive program.
For clients who are also struggling with a co-occurring disorder, there are medication management support services provided. Additionally, there is a medical doctor on staff who monitors the client’s overall health throughout the program. Therapeutic modalities used during treatment include CBT, EMDR, DBT, trauma-informed care and Family Systems.
The staff at Farrington includes the clinic director and founder, Brooke Farrington, who is an LCSW and CEDS (Certified Eating Disorder Specialist). Additional staff includes LMFTs, RDNs, psychiatrists, dietitians and nutritionists.
Extras
Both of the IOPs offer a Family Day that provides counseling and educational elements. Clients in certain stages of their program are offered yoga classes. There is also a recovery support dog at the facility named Molly.
