Sierra Tucson Review

Just north of Tucson, Arizona, overlooking the high desert and the sprawling Catalina mountains on 160 acres sits Sierra Tucson, one of many drug and alcohol facilities falling under the banner of the CRC Health Group. They use the Sierra Model of treatment, which focuses on healing the mind, body and spirit through a mixture of traditional and innovative methods. In addition to alcohol and drug treatment, Sierra Tucson offers recovery programs for PTSD and chronic pain management, as well as for anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and compulsive overeating.

Accommodations and Food

Sierra Tucson boasts a beautiful location in foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, just north of greater Tucson. Clients live two per room but rooms feature full-size beds and hotel-like amenities. Clients’ rooms and bathrooms are cleaned regularly but they are expected to keep their personal spaces relatively tidy. A fitness center and laundry facilities are located on site. The length of stay is generally 30 to 90 days and the average age of the clientele is mid-30s.

Meals are healthy and well-balanced, regardless of whether or not a client is receiving treatment for an eating disorder. Only the best ingredients are served at Sierra Tucson and they maintain health guidelines set up by the American Diabetes Association and American Dietetic Association.

Treatment and Staff

Sierra Tucson clients receive a standard detox when necessary, as well as medical evaluations, group therapy and individual therapy. Sierra Tucson also offers DBT, EMDR, somatic experiencing, biofeedback and neurofeedback.

No one could argue that Sierra Tucson doesn’t do its best to offer a well-rounded and diverse program. They emphasize 12-step, with meetings at the facility as well as off-campus. A typical day begins as early as 6:45 and clients are kept busy until 9:30pm. Group meetings, relapse prevention education, 12-step meetings, individual assignments and family programming fill the schedule alongside a multitude of recreational options.

There is a multi-disciplinary, highly educated team leading the treatment at Sierra Tucson. Led by a doctor director, there are 27 PhD and Master’s-level therapists and a combination of seven nurses and psychiatrists. Among these are eating disorder specialists, a psychodramatist, an equine therapist and a counselor specializing in LBGTQ issues.

They offer a four-day Family Program that extends healing to the addicts’ loved ones who have suffered the effects of the disease of addiction, all in addition to the perks listed above.

Extras

Popular alternative therapies like equine therapy, adventure therapy, experiential therapy and spirituality therapy are also all available. Additionally, for those who feel like their journey into sobriety has been like scaling a wall, climbing wall therapy is also available. Finally, they offer acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage and yoga.

In Summary

Sierra Tucson built up one of the best reputations out there. They offer an array of treatment, holistic offerings aplenty and an impressive staff. This is definitely a place where addicts can recover in style.
