Veritas Collaborative Adolescent Residential Review
Veritas Collaborative is an eating disorder treatment facility with locations in Durham, North Carolina and Richmond, Virginia. The adolescent inpatient and residential treatment takes place in the Durham facility specifically for adolescents, and offers clients ages eight to 17 a safe and comprehensive treatment program that includes evidence-based treatment models and medical care. The adolescent tracks rely heavily on the participation of family members and provides individualized treatment not only for the clients but their loved ones as well.
Accommodations and Food
The residential facility in Durham is a brand new facility that just opened its doors in 2018 to accommodate 24 clients. The facility itself is very warm and cheerful, with modern amenities and spacious living areas. The bedrooms are semi private with full beds and dressers in the rooms. Residents share bathrooms. The residence also features a library and lounge space, and two living room areas that have TVs and comfortable couches and chairs. Other common areas on site include medical offices and therapy rooms. Rounding out the space are classrooms with computers for clients that are still in school and need to keep up with their classwork.
There is a large dining room and kitchen that provides cafeteria style meals three times a day along with snacks. There is a salad bar for lunch and dinner and every meal has several options to choose from.
Treatment and Staff
Normally, the terms “inpatient” and “residential” are interchangeable in the recovery industry. However, at Veritas, the inpatient track refers to the most intensive level of care, reserved for clients who need stabilization before entering into the residential program. It’s 24-hour-a-day monitoring by a medical staff and can also include detox if necessary.
The residential treatment level also provides round the clock monitoring but offers more activities. Clients have daily recreational and outdoor activities. For younger clients up to the age of 12, there are additional programming elements that focus on their developmental needs.
Treatment is gender diverse and includes daily group therapy and at least one individual session per week. Clients have frequent medical check ups and appointments with the staff psychiatrists. Evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, Family Based Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) are utilized. There are also play therapy techniques used when appropriate. In addition, the treatment team integrates holistic therapeutic approaches, like art and music therapy, mindfulness and expressive methods. Participants also have culinary classes and nutrition education during every stage of treatment.
Veritas Collaborative has a large medical staff of nurses and physicians. There are also case managers, LMFTs, LCSWs, nutritionists and culinary staff. The adolescent program at Veritas aims to not only help clients get healthy but to also maintain their education so when they leave treatment they are able to step back into their lives as seamlessly as possible. There are educational support staff members who supply the proper school work during treatment.
Extras
Veritas has step-down services at the adolescent residential facility in Durham through the outpatient programs. Clients can also expect to participate in yoga and light exercise on a regular basis.
