Doorways Review
Located in Phoenix, Arizona, Doorways is a faith-based outpatient treatment facility that specializes in the care of adolescents and young adults struggling with substance use and eating disorders as well as co-occurring mental health conditions such as trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD and learning disorders like ADHD. Doorways is the only facility in Phoenix that has an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient therapeutic services for clients aged between 13 and 25. The organization seeks the underlying causes of a person’s condition and employs a multi-faceted approach to care that integrates medication management, evidence-based models, nutrition, individual and group therapy as well as family therapy. Founded by Jan Hamilton, Doorways primarily offers faith-based therapy and medication management on the outpatient level. The 12-step recovery model is not a component of the programming.
Treatment and Staff
Doorways offers care for individuals with anxiety disorders, learning disorders, substance use and eating disorders, depression and trauma as well as self-harm like cutting and burning. Clients entering treatment undergo a comprehensive assessment to help the team construct the most effective treatment strategy to meet the specific needs and goals of the individual.
Doorways offers a faith-based philosophy and an approach to care that integrates a number of methods including medication management, individual and group counseling, family counseling, nutrition and evidence-based therapies like CBT, DBT and EMDR to treat early trauma as a causal component of a current condition.
Doorways offers four IOPs specifically designed for teens with anxiety disorders, OCD, in need of DBT skill building and those with eating disorders. All groups are open to teenage clients and individuals may join at any time. The eating disorders IOP provides therapy for 10 hours a week on weekday evenings. Included are monitored meals, DBT sessions, nutrition education and process groups that focus on body image and coping skills.
Doorways employs a multidisciplinary team of professionals comprised of psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, LSWs and dietitians. For clients in need of dual diagnosis support, medication management is available.

For those in need, Doorways provides family counseling to teach families how to better communicate, build boundaries and show affection.
