The Basics

The Art of MFT refers to the practice of Gina Balit, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist working out of her private practice in Woodland Hills, CA. Balit also provides in-home services throughout Greater Los Angeles. She specializes in working with children and trauma clients, and utilizes various art therapy methods in her work. Her main clientele are within the Armenian community as she’s bilingual in both English and Armenian. Her primary offering is individual therapy but she also facilitates a consultation group for therapists who are new to their practices, and sometimes family groups and sessions that are specifically for children.

Treatment and Staff

As previously mentioned, Balit is a therapist who brings her experience and knowledge of the Armenian culture to her clients. She often integrates CBT, Narrative Therapy and various forms of art therapy, and offers a special focus on trauma, divorce or domestic violence cases. Balit operates with the belief that using humor and creativity within a therapeutic setting can help aid in healing and make emotional discoveries organically.

Her individual sessions are typically held once a week in one of her private practice offices and run for 45 to 55 minutes. Family sessions can be with an individual or whole family unit and focus on opening up lines of communication and work on problem solving skills. There is also focus on parenting skills, anger management, and behavioral management.

Balit works with children who have gone through a divorce and are experiencing feelings of abandonment or fear, in addition to families who have experienced domestic abuse and violence. She works to address a variety of common issues and behaviors, like shame, anger, depression or anxiety in hopes of deterring future behavioral problems like substance abuse or delinquent behavior in school.

Balit offers flexible hours at both of her practices and in special cases is able to provide weekend sessions upon request.

Gina is an LMFT and registered Art Therapist who has been practicing since 2012. In addition to her experience working within a private practice setting, she also has extensive experience working with children and women who have been victims of domestic violence, as well as adolescent clientele within a school setting.

With the use of humor and creativity, Balit shows genuine care for the clients and families with whom she works.
