The Basics

The OCD Center of Los Angeles is an outpatient treatment center for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related issues with four locations in Southern California. There are two in the LA area—Woodland Hills and Brentwood, one in Orange County’s Fullerton and one in Santa Barbara. The facility was founded in 1999 by Tom Corboy, an MFT who specializes in treating OCD.

Treatment and Staff

The OCD Center of Los Angeles treats a wide range of forms of OCD and anxiety disorders, including—but not limited to—obsessional OCD, harm OCD, scrupulosity OCD, relationship OCD (ROCD), postpartum OCD, OCD in children and adolescents, social anxieties and phobias, hypochondria, skin picking, trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and panic disorder. OCD and anxiety tests are available in order to help clients determine the best course of treatment and pin down an actual diagnosis.

Intensive OCD and anxiety CBT therapy courses are offered to those whose need a rigorous treatment protocol. This involves multiple weekly therapy sessions and may run for a shorter period of treatment than the typical therapeutic plan. The standard intensive program has clients meeting for six hours a week for four to six weeks. A one-week intensive program is offered for those who can learn quickly and do not have time for the typical treatment course. This involves 12 hours of one-on-one therapy for four to five days. A weekend intensive program requires eight hours of individual therapy over two to three days. Custom-length treatments are also available. Couples and family sessions are available and may be integrated into treatment depending on the circumstances.

Treatment at the facility focuses on evidence-based therapies including using various forms of CBT. Also employed are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the non-judgmental observational Schwartz Four-Step method, DBT, Cognitive Restructuring (CR) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

The highly trained staff at each location includes Master’s-level MFTs, Master’s-level LCSWs, Master’s-level MSWs and several other Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

A summer school program for students and teachers is held between June and August.

Telephone and webcam-based online counseling is available for those who live out of state or outside of the country, clients whose travel is restricted by physical or mental disorders, individuals with sudden scheduling conflicts or cases in which a pregnancy or new child may preclude an in-person visit. Home visits may also be employed.

In Summary

The OCD Center of Los Angeles offers extensive, evidence-based treatment for OCD and anxiety disorders in four convenient locations. Treatment usually has a set length, which means that it is goal-based and centers around solving the issues and moving on with a productive life. The organization’s Master’s-level team is a great feature and ensures that clients are taken care of by individuals who are experts in their fields.
