The Basics
Located in Phoenix, Arizona, New Horizons Counseling Service is a behavioral health facility that provides outpatient treatment for addiction. Founded in 1996, the facility offers flexible and individualized plans for court-ordered and self-referred clients.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial screening and assessment, clients work with counselors to develop a treatment plan that best suits their needs. Three levels of treatment are available, including and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), standard outpatient and outpatient. All of them use CBT-based group therapy as a foundation.
IOP is the most comprehensive program, consisting of three, two-hour groups a week for a minimum 40 sessions. Standard outpatient meets twice a week for 30 sessions and outpatient meets just once a week for 12 weeks. Individual therapy can be added to any program as needed, which is especially recommended to clients requiring dual diagnosis support. All clients are also strongly encouraged to attend off-site 12-step meetings.
Staff includes CSACs, LCSWs, MSWs, nurse practitioners and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Aftercare is offered in the form of an ongoing relapse prevention program that is available to all clients who complete primary care.
Additional services include screenings, education and treatment for DUIs, as well as anger management groups, parenting skills classes, support for sex offenders, domestic violence survivors’ groups and medication evaluation services.
In Summary
Overall, New Horizons Counseling Service is a well-rounded organization that offers affordable, community-oriented services. Treatment is evidence-based and customizable with added support for co-occurring disorders. Though its programs may be more aimed at court-ordered clientele, New Horizons Counseling Service remains a valuable resource for locals.
