The Basics
Professional Counseling Associates is an Arkansas-based treatment facility which provides outpatient services for adults, adolescents and children. With seven locations throughout Pulaski, Lonoke and Prairie Counties, the organization is a CARF-accredited non-profit with support for both addiction and mental illnesses and for those with co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, clients work with staff members to develop individualized treatment plans with support for all levels of recovery. While Professional Counseling Associates’ programs are largely similar to a psychological practice, each treatment plan is led by an entire team of professionals. Though individual and group therapy are always included, the number of sessions of each varies on a case-by-case basis. At its many locations, Counseling Associates’ Offices are open normal business hours—8 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday—with a number of appointments available to fit many schedules.
The organization has more than 20 clinical staff members including psychiatrists, psychologists, LCSWs and LPCs. All staff members are trained in evidence-based therapies which can include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and trauma-informed care. Medication management services are also available as necessary, with additional case management services to help clients develop life and social skills. Though 12-step groups are not a required part of treatment, referrals to local meetings are available upon request.
Extras
Aside from the above, Professional Counseling Associates also offers family therapy programs through its Family Resource Center. Services are free and confidential and include educational sessions about mental illness, addiction, counseling, relationship guidance and more.
The facility also has an on-site movie room as well as board games and a common area for clients and family to relax in. There’s also a youth prevention program called PROMOTE founded in 1997 which provides case management to at-risk youth. The latter is open to both self-referred and court-ordered clients.
In Summary
With a number of locations and flexible service hours, Professional Counseling Associates has a lot to offer Arkansas residents in need of behavioral health care. Services are available to those coming out of the criminal justice system as well as to families of those in treatment. While clients in need of more intensive residential care may need to seek additional help, Professional Counseling Associates remains a strong resource for those in the area.
