First Step Recovery Review
On May 5th, 2015 First Step Recovery was established as a private detox and substance abuse treatment center, in Warren, Ohio. Accredited by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, First Step is about 50 miles east of Akron and offers detox, residential and outpatient treatment.
Accommodations and Food
Detox is undertaken in a hospital setting with 24 hour medical care. In detox four people share each room, dorm style. Built on the same property, is the ranch style house that accommodates 16 clients after they detox. Clients each get a twin bed in a two-person bedroom, with its own flat screen TV. There are a total of four bedrooms for men, plus a women’s wing in the same arrangement. First Step also offers group rooms in which counseling, activities and education take place. No smoking is allowed on-site. Three meals per day are served family-style and included in cost of stay.
Treatment and Staff
Detox at First Step typically lasts three to seven days. Clients are monitored 24 hours a day and are served meals in their room—with an emphasis on hydration and proper nutrition. One-on-one mental health, as well as spiritual, counseling is available while detox clients also get an introduction to group therapy and 12-step meetings. Medications such as Suboxone and Vivitrol may be administered depending on need.
Inpatient treatment typically lasts 21 days and consists of a rigorous group therapy schedule. Clients attend scheduled sessions throughout the day and have weekly individual therapy. Family counseling is offered, as are on-site AA/NA meetings and gender-specific groups. After inpatient, clients may step down into outpatient treatment. Attendance times are decided on an individual basis depending on availability. Counseling with the goal of enhancing mental, emotional and spiritual well being is provided. Last but not least, relapse prevention therapy is available to address triggers, stressors and cravings.
First Step’s medical team consists of a medical director, a director of nursing, a number of registered and licensed practical nurses and medical assistants. The treatment team is made up of Master’s-level clinicians, LPCs, LCDCs and interns.
Extras
Recovery coaching, help with job searches, transportation to doctor’s appointments and assistance in getting a driver’s license are all provided.
Some holistic options include exercise classes, yoga, mindful meditation and skills training. Healthy lifestyle classes along with stress management are further optional activities as are massage therapy, and life skills education such as resume writing and completing job and housing applications.
In Summary
Although First Step Recovery is a new facility, it offers an impressive list of services. For those who do need detox and could use further supportive treatment, First Step may as well be tailored-made for their needs. What’s more, not only is Medicaid and most insurance but, at only $495 per week, the cost of stay is very affordable.
