Beacon Recovery Review
UAB Medicine’s Beacon Recovery has been providing outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment to adults and adolescents ages 13 to 18 for over 25 years. Its mission is to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drug use through treatment and education. Beacon Recovery boasts myriad resources, as UAB is the third largest public hospital in the nation.
Treatment and Staff
Beacon Recovery’s therapeutic treatment utilizes evidence-based practice models that are trauma-informed and family and client centered. As previously mentioned, it offers two levels of outpatient care—outpatient and intensive outpatient. Length of program is individualized and frequency of groups varies based on the type of group that is assigned. The treatment team works to customize a recovery plan that best fits each client and their path to recovery. Detox and inpatient care are not offered but the facility refers those in need to appropriate resources. Because their recovery needs can be different, Beacon Recovery offers groups specifically for men, women and adolescents.
The clinical team is comprised of licensed and certified counselors with expertise in addiction and recovery, trauma, grief, relationships and family dynamics.
Extras
Along with substance abuse programs, Beacon Recovery provides clients with case management to help with problems like getting access to health care and housing issues.
Groups are offered in the mornings and evenings, and on weekends, so clients can continue in work or school.
In addition to case management, Beacon Recovery can facilitate coordinated mental health evaluation and treatment, opioid-specific treatment groups and coordination of care with providers for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), family therapy and education, aftercare/peer recovery support services and peer-led support groups (including 12-step).
In Summary
With its experienced staff and commitment to results-oriented treatment, Beacon Recovery would be a good choice for someone looking for an outpatient program that is evidence-based. While its outpatient programs are intensive, individuals ready to address their substance abuse but unable to commit to inpatient care might find the ideal option in Beacon Recovery.
