Oxford House 16th stThe Basics

Oxford House 16th Street is a men’s sober living home in Sioux City, Iowa. It operates under the Oxford Houses Inc. umbrella—an international non-profit organization uniting newly sober men and women in a supportive community of gender-specific houses.

Oxford Houses are democratically run homes that provide a safe and sober environment for those in recovery. With a focus on independent living and personal responsibility, the thousands of Oxford Houses worldwide offer a second chance for men, women and their families.

Accommodations and Amenities

Oxford House 16th Street is situated on a large grassy lot in a residential tree-lined street. The white two-story home can accommodate eight men. There are multiple entrances, front and back, wheelchair access and a small porch. There is a small front yard, a fenced-in back yard and ample street parking.

Clients share four double-occupancy bedrooms with a total of eight single beds available. Clients get their own twin-size bed, bedside table, small desk, and small cabinet. There are two shared bathrooms, a living room with cable TV, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen.

Rules and Regulations

Though autonomously run, all Oxford Houses follow the same basic set of rules and traditions. There are absolutely no drugs or alcohol allowed on the premises, residents must pay their rent on time and must be respectful of themselves and others in the home.

In order to be admitted into an Oxford House, clients must have completed either a residential program or at minimum detox. Oxford House 16th Street also requires residents to be involved in a 12-step program with an active sponsor and to attend the house meeting each week.

Extras

Once a month, Oxford House clients gather for socializing and fellowship with other nearby homes. The Oxford House organization also hosts a World Convention where elected representatives and clients meet to discuss the functionality of the Oxford Houses and new techniques and approaches for addiction treatment.
