Boynton-sober-livingBoynton Sober Living Home Review

With close proximity to San Jose City College, West Valley College and San Jose State University, the Boynton sober living house in San Jose, California may be a good fit for students with substance abuse issues who are ready for the next phase of recovery. The attractive, two-story, blue house is located in a peaceful residential neighborhood and provides a supportive, family-like environment without the rigid structure of a conventional treatment center. Like other residences owned by TLC Sober Living Homes, Boynton has curfews, house rules and random drug screening.

Accommodations and Amenities

The five-bedroom Boynton house accommodates 16 people in rooms furnished with twin beds, nightstands and shared dressers. Two of the bedrooms are master suites that house four residents each and the remaining rooms accommodate two to three people, depending on the number of clients living in the house at the time. There are four bathrooms upstairs in addition to a half bathroom downstairs.

Recently remodeled, Boynton is fresh and modern—newly tiled kitchen and bathrooms, hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances. Other amenities include plasma TV, high-speed Internet, digital cable and free local and long distance phone service. There is a laundry room adjacent to the kitchen that is stocked with soap and fabric softener. Residents are responsible for their own towels and linens. The house also provides utensils and cookware, cleaning supplies, paper goods and coffee, and residents shop for and prepare meals.

The backyard has a pool, Jacuzzi, covered patio, barbecue and plenty of lawn space.

Rules and Regulations

Prospective residents must be sober at least 24 hours and have completed some sort of residential or outpatient treatment to be admitted to Boynton house. Daily AA meetings or outpatient counseling are required and residents must have a sponsor or counselor and take direction from the house manager. While the house manager doesn’t live on-site, all managers are on the premises seven days a week.

All clients must be up and out of their rooms by 9 am and have completed their assigned house chores. Curfews are 11 pm on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Smoking is permitted outside in designated areas.

Mandatory house meetings are held on Sunday and Thursday evenings at 9 pm. This is an opportunity for residents to check in and share about their process or air grievances in addition to being a forum for the house manager to bring up any issues.

Violence and substance abuse are grounds for immediate dismissal.

In Summary

Boynton sober living in San Jose is an upscale facility in a safe neighborhood. Conveniently located to nearby colleges, it may be a good option for students who don’t mind sharing a room with three to four other people and who would like to continue their education while moving toward independence in recovery.
