Washington Street Hope CenterWashington Street Hope Center Review

Located in the quaint town of Marksville, Louisiana, Washington Street Hope Center opened its doors in 1990 as a 10-bed, all-male treatment facility and received an overwhelming response from the community. By its second year, it had doubled in size and operated as a 20-bed, all male facility until 2006 when—due to popular demand—it added a 16-bed location for women just six blocks away. Twenty-four years later, the Washington Street Hope Center has treated over 6,000 people suffering from addiction.

Accommodations and Food

WSHC provides a non-medical, home-like setting for residents, which can range from five to 30 depending on the time of year. Men and women are equally accepted but they are boarded in different locations. If clients follow the program at WSHC as it’s intended, they are then moved to the sober living facility. All meals, described as “good Southern cooking,” are prepared on-site.

Treatment and Staff

The program at WSHC is bare bones, as befitting the cost, and yet it’s said to be quite effective. Most clients stay 28 days in this rehab that’s founded upon the Recovery Dynamics model of treatment, a 12-step based program designed by Joe McQuany. Unlike most rehabs, WSHC does not offer individual or group therapy—they believe whole-heartedly in the power of the 12 steps and the daily schedule reflects as much (it’s described by as staff member as “AA all day long because that’s what works”).

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held daily on-site and twice a week clients are given access to outside meetings to become acquainted with the local recovery community. WSHC doesn’t prescribe or administer any medication so prospective clients who are in need of medical detox or pharmaceutical medication will need to take care of that prior to arriving at WSHC.

Since WSHC is a licensed provider of Recovery Dynamics, all the counseling staff are Certified Recovery Dynamics Providers and share a common goal of paving the way for clients’ recovery and long-term sobriety. WSHC has about 10 employees at one time.

In Summary

Washington Street Hope Center has a solid success rate and its goal is to provide treatment to those who need it and not just those who can pay for it. It accepts Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance and those in financial need can pay on a sliding scale.
