The Basics
Recovery Center of Northern Virginia was founded by Desi Farren, a CADC. With outpatient treatment locations in Leesburg and Herndon, it combines psychotherapy and a psycho-educational approach to battle substance abuse. Groups are kept between six and 10 clients.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment lasts between six months to a year. Prior to admission, an in-person assessment with a counselor is completed. Clients receive individualized treatment plans, with weekly treatment including individual therapy (scheduled per client’s needs), two to four group sessions and mandatory attendance at local 12-step meetings. Group topics include relapse prevention, stress management, an introduction to the 12-steps and trauma. Before a client leaves the program, he or she must find a sponsor as well as embark on 12-step work. While dual diagnosis support is not offered during therapy, the rehab provides psychiatric referrals to appropriate clients.
Recovery Center of Northern Virginia also offers outpatient support to adolescents, ages 13 to 18. Weekly treatment includes two group sessions, a family group session (every other week) and individual therapy (scheduled per client’s needs).
Aftercare is provided for those who have completed an inpatient treatment program. Clients attend two weekly group therapy sessions, and see a counselor as required. Group topics are similar to those in the outpatient program.
A weekly Enhanced Recovery group therapy program is provided for aftercare graduates. Group topics include family and childhood issues, codependency, life transitions and continued growth in recovery.
Cell phone use is prohibited during therapy. While Recovery Center of Northern Virginia provides a cozy milieu, staff prefers that clients not eat nor drink during therapy. Smoking is forbidden on the grounds.
Recovery Center of Northern Virginia clients pay for services rendered. Initial consultation costs $175, group therapy costs $70 per session and individual therapy costs $130 a session.
Farren, who has more than 20 years of experience as a CADC works closely with clients. Seven other employees are on board, including additional CADCs and Master’s-level LPCs.
Extras
A free family awareness program, including intervention services, is provided.
A substance abuse education series that includes 16 to 24 sessions is offered for DUI/DWI clients at a cost of $100 per intake and $40 per session.
In Summary
Farren and her staff offer clients personal attention, and Recovery Center of Northern Virginia appears to be a good match for those who have some sobriety time under their belt.
