Manatee Glens Review
Offering 24-hour medical supervision and a range of treatment options, Manatee Glens provides intensive treatment for those struggling with addiction. Located in Bradenton, a Florida city just south of St. Petersburg on Tampa Bay, this facility focuses on therapy and wellness and includes both individual and group therapy. With top-of-the-line medical care and a locked unit, clients who are in need of medical stabilization and structured support can receive a complete overhaul during their stay.
Accommodations and Food
Treatment is provided within a hospital, so expect white walls and a sterile vibe. Those in the 20-person residential unit have an entire floor to themselves; meals, therapy and sleeping are all done in this contained space. Clients are assigned a basic room upon entry, sharing the space with one other person. The group rooms are just down the hall from the bedrooms, providing a setting for lectures and talk therapy. Since this is a locked unit, clients are prohibited from leaving during their stay.
Although there is no state-of-the-art gym or guided yoga class, residents do have access to a very small weight room. In addition, they can enjoy some fresh air during a brief, supervised walk around the courtyard. As this is a hospital, smoking is not allowed.
Three meals per day are provided for clients. The food is prepared in the hospital cafeteria so it won’t be five-star cuisine. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Clients can begin treatment with a medically monitored detox during which doctors and nurses are constantly checking on them, while detox meds are administered when appropriate. This process costs an additional $2,000 and usually lasts between three and five days.
In addition to having access to medical staff, residents have daily check-ins with a psychiatrist, which can be particularly comforting for those who are struggling with mental health issues. Case managers and therapists oversee the therapeutic process, which includes weekly individual sessions and several hours of group therapy each day. Group topics include relapse prevention, trauma, processing, nutrition, life skills and anger management. Family therapy sessions can be done with the primary counselor.
For those who need something a little less intense, Manatee Glens offers a variety of outpatient services. The length and intensity of treatment depends on the individual, ranging from one group per week to several hours every day.
In Summary
Prospective clients seeking 24-hour medical care and a set of strict rules will surely respond well to this comprehensive program. Still, cabin fever is always a risk for anyone in a locked unit with little outdoor time.
