Located just 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh, the Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Addiction Center was known as Butler Alcoholism Recovery Center when it was founded in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 1971. Treatment and Staff
At The Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Addiction Center, the minimum stay for residential treatment is 14 days and programs are offered in 30-, 60- and 90-day options. The facility embraces a 12-step approach, with daily individual and group therapy and off-site AA/NA meetings. No detox is provided, but dual diagnosis support is offered.
Clients choose from several different levels of treatment intensity. The outpatient and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs are for individuals who need help, but are living and working in the community. In the IOP program, clients attend three group therapy sessions per week and each session lasts three hours. The program length is eight weeks, or 24 group sessions. Outpatient is a weekly program where clients attend one group per week lasting 90 minutes, and one individual therapy session per week. These sessions focus on relapse prevention and maintaining sobriety. This is a flexible level of care depending on the client’s needs. Clients also have the option of attending weekly individual sessions with the therapist to enhance the treatment process. For those clients whose schedule cannot accommodate the weekly group, individual therapy sessions alone are available.
The staff pride themselves on enjoying what they do. There is an on-site medical team that includes a physician, nurse practitioner and registered nurse. The treatment team is comprised of Master’s-level addiction counselors and certified techs.
