Chapter House Review
Chapter House is a men’s sober living home located in Dallas that has served clients in recovery for 25 years. In addition to sober living, the program offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Through individualized, gender-specific care, clients are able to turn their lives around.
Accommodations and Amenities
Chapter House is located on a golf course in a quiet residential neighborhood. The luxurious, 5,700-square-foot home was built with young adult males in mind, featuring an outdoor pool, a game room with game tables, a pool table, a game cabinet, a pinball machine and an arcade machine. There are large beds and bedding and towels provided upon arrival. Along with the many at-home activities, residents are treated to various outings such as sporting events. There are only 12 spots available, allowing each resident to receive ample attention.
Reflecting its commitment to health and wellness, Chapter House has a partnership with the nutrition department of Cooper Clinic. A specialist is available onsite for workshops on meal preparation, grocery shopping and cooking. Clients are in charge of making their own meals, although the men often cook as a group. In addition to learning healthy eating habits, residents have access to Crull Fitness gym.
Rules and Regulations
Prospective residents must be male and between the ages of 18 and 35. They must have attended treatment for substance abuse, be drug- and alcohol-free and willing to commit to at least 90 days at Chapter House.
The facility provides extended care in a very structured environment that includes immersion in the 12 steps, along with community involvement. The client and his family are assigned individual case managers to aid communication. The IOP is scheduled 10 hours a week and includes both group and individual therapy and psychiatrist-led education groups. On- and off-site AA/NA meetings occur on a daily basis in addition to Big Book study groups. The day wraps up with a curfew of 10 pm and lights out at 11 pm.
The staff consists of LDACs.
Extras
Community partners and Chapter House staff members have developed a workshop to help young men transition into adulthood. This includes assistance in applying to higher education and in career development.
Chapter House doesn’t offer an official family program but family is kept updated and informed on the client’s status every week. The client’s family is strongly encouraged to be involved with the resident’s program but cannot visit for the first 30 days. After this initial period, family members can visit on the weekends.

Men who fully immerse themselves in the program at Chapter House will reap the benefits of both its amenities and intensity. Recovery is tough but Chapter House provides residents with all the tools needed to make the transition as smooth as possible.
