Accommodations and Amenities
Mermaids Cove accommodates three women at a time and residency typically lasts a year. Each resident has her own private suite with a king-size bed, ocean view, large windows, a big-screen HD TV, Internet access and finely-woven Egyptian cotton sheets. The bathroom adjacent to each room has a deep tub and separate shower.
The rest of the house is extravagant and decorated in a sleek modern style. Floor to ceiling windows stretch along one side of the structure, providing an expansive view of the Malibu hillsides. In the state-of-the-art kitchen, a private chef prepares three healthy meals a day and can accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies.
Rules and Regulations
Off-site 12-step meetings are required daily, and transportation is provided by the facility. Each resident also must have a weekly exercise regimen in place in addition to a plan for daily meditation, Pilates or yoga, EMDR or neurofeedback, depending on their needs. Other holistic treatments available include massage therapy, physical therapy, hypnotherapy and Reiki. Medication management is also offered if necessary.
Residents are not required to clean or cook, nor do they have any other duties around the house. They follow their prescribed mental/physical/spiritual health regimes and relax their way through this phase of recovery. However, it’s not all facials and strolls on the beach, as random drug testing is required.
Extras
Regular outings include trips to the spa, hikes and, more frequently, shopping sprees. At home, residents can relax watching TV or spend time swimming in the pool or relaxing in the Jacuzzi as well as in the meditation gardens. Steps at the edge of the backyard lead down to the beach where residents have access to swimming, jogging or sunbathing.
The facility provides access to a registered dietician, eating disorder specialist and psychologist or therapist. Mermaids Cove also offers services for financial planning and money management.
Through its “Recovery Management Assistance Program,” former residents can get the support of a recovery manager who checks in daily and helps them maintain sobriety.

Those considering Mermaids Cove Malibu may be deterred by the exclusivity. Being limited to housing no more than three people could pose an issue for someone in urgent circumstances.
