Turning Points Counseling & Consulting is a mental health and substance abuse treatment program founded 20 years ago by its clinical director, Bobby Scott. It offers education, family therapy, life coaching and Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) for adults and adolescents in the northern Mississippi town of Southaven.
Treatment and Staff
A Bridge To Recovery, Turning Points Counseling’s 30-day adult IOP program, can accommodate up to 35 clients. Detox is not facilitated here so clients in need of detox must do so elsewhere prior to beginning treatment. Clients attend sessions from 9 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 9 am to 1 pm on Friday. Many clients have just completed residential treatment and are currently in a local sober living program.
Treatment includes CBT, DBT, dual diagnosis by way of both individual and group therapy. Though not facilitated on-site, 12-step participation outside of treatment is supported. Groups are mixed gender and generally accommodate 10 to 15 clients. Group topics include anger management and parenting. Frequency of individual therapy is based on the needs of the client
The adolescent IOP, Higher Ground, is a three-month treatment that includes DBT and a robust family program that includes therapy and education. Its individual and group sessions focus on life skills, impulse control and anger management.
Owner, Bobby Scott runs the adult IOP program. He is a Master’s-level LMFT, Certified Addiction Professional and CADC. Higher Ground is operated by Brian Sellers, a Master’s-level counselor and National Board Certified Counselor.
Extras
In addition to outpatient treatment, Turning Points Counseling & Consulting offers marriage and family therapy, life coaching and workshops on sexual harassment, workplace violence and parenting. Clients who do not require substance abuse treatment may also receive DBT for mental health issues. For aftercare, clients may continue to attend Turning Points’ group sessions.
