The Emily Program has operations in four states. It provides adults and adolescents with residential and outpatient care eating and body issues along with substance abuse. The adult residential program in St. Paul, Minnesota, known as the Anna Westin House, facilitates comprehensive, evidence-based protocols and around the clock medical care. This program is named after Anna Westin, a Chaska, Minnesota resident who struggled for many years with an eating disorder that eventually took her life. Now her name is synonymous with hope and healing. In fact, The Emily Program also refers to the residential program for teens as The Anna Westin House.

Accommodations and Food

The current residential facility opened in 2010 in the neighborhood of St. Paul known as St. Anthony Park. Clients live in a renovated church that can accommodate up to 16. The beautiful building offers semi private bedrooms, high ceilings, lots of open space and and bright windows.

There are several common areas, like a living room with a TV, and shared computers with WiFi, laundry room, offices, meetings spaces and medical quarters. The surrounding neighborhood boasts plenty of restaurants, shops and employment opportunities. Residents flex their newly refreshed recovery skills and work on their reintegration into the community. There are often outings in the community.

The staff prepares healthy meals in the kitchen and clients eat together in the dining room. A staff nutritionist works closely with the house chef to put together well balanced and tasty meals. There are also snacks available all hours of the day.

Treatment and Staff

Every treatment plan is totally individualized to suit each client’s needs. In some cases clients have specialized groups or treatment they can participate in, such as the dual diagnosis program. There are a variety of daily group therapy options, individual sessions, nutrition and experiential and expressive therapies.

Treatment approaches include DBT, CBT, EMDR, the 12 steps, art and music therapy and integrative treatments, like movement therapy. The facility holds therapeutic group meals and snacks on site regularly. There is constant monitoring with a medical professional to make sure the client is staying on track. Medication management is also included.

Clients have frequent outings grocery shopping. They learn how to prepare meals for themselves and others that are healthy. There is an emphasis on self care and promoting balance with mental and physical health. Clients assess their eating habits and body image. They also work on relapse prevention and how to regulate their moods and feelings when it comes to food.

There is a staff of highly trained and experienced professionals who run The Emily Program. This includes psychiatrists, nutritionists, dietitians, nursing staff and physicians, LPCs and LCSWs.

Extras

Clients have regular physical activities like yoga, stretching, strength and recreational activities.

There is family and couples counseling on a weekly basis.
