Pura Vida Sober Living

The Basics

With locations in Santa Rosa and Novato, California, Pura Vida is a broad behavioral health organization with sober living homes for men and women struggling with addiction throughout Sonoma and Marin Counties. The company has a total of five sober homes for men and women, each in discreet residential neighborhoods with ancillary vocational and therapeutic services available as well.

Accommodations and Amenities

Throughout its many houses, Pura Vida has 74 total beds available for residents, 25 of which are exclusively for women. Though the layouts of the homes vary, all bedrooms are shared between clients and include basic decorations, end tables with lamps, full beds and shared closet space. In addition to the bedrooms, the houses also come with all the other amenities of home such as shared living areas, cable TV and WiFi, dining rooms, outdoor patios and fully-equipped kitchens. Throughout their stay, all residents are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.

Rules and Regulations

To live at Pura Vida, new residents are expected to attend 30 peer support meetings in their first 30 days (12-step and other recovery programs are available). After that, this requirement tapers to only one of these meetings a week, though clients are also expected to find a sponsor or life coach to help them in recovery as well. Other requirements including following basic house rules, completing chores, attending all required in-house meetings and submitting to regular and random drug testing.

Thirty, 60 and 90-day behavioral reviews are also required to help clients keep on track in their recovery. As with most sober livings, residents are also expected to remain busy with volunteerism, further schooling, outpatient treatment or employment.

Extras

All clients at Pura Vida can also take advantage of ancillary services including vocational training and life skills workshops. The organization also partners with local employment agencies to help find residents stable jobs as well. As clients progress through the program, they can also become eligible for off-site overnight passes at the staff’s discretion. Finally, those in need of aftercare services can get referrals to nearby programs or attend one of Pura Vida’s outpatient programs.

In Summary

In all, Pura Vida is a well-rounded organization that offers safe and stable recovery environments for men and women. While residents do get some degree of freedom to live their own lives, all are expected to follow regular daily schedules, remain busy throughout the day and submit to regular drug tests. For those in the area, Pura Vida Sober Living is a strong resource worth considering.
