With locations throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, Pathways to Life is a CARF-accredited behavioral health organization that offers a range of mental health and substance abuse services. Treatment is outpatient-based and includes support for co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, clients go through an initial intake and assessment process so the staff can develop an individualized treatment plan. The most comprehensive track is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which is open to both adults and adolescents, and includes individual and group therapy that uses evidence-based practices, such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The next level down are the standard outpatient programs, which are more flexible and less time intensive. While not required, clients are encouraged to attend local 12-step meetings as a supplement to their treatment and to begin building a local recovery network.
The staff includes LCSWs, LPCs, case managers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Aside from the more structured programs, Pathways to Life also provides mobile crisis services that send counselors directly to clients’ homes. This is generally limited to emergency situations and may include follow-up care such as crisis stabilization or detox services. The organization also has a program called the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) that provides 24-hour support to those with severe mental illness. Aftercare is available in the form of stepped-down therapy.
