New Dawn Treatment Centers: Outpatient

The Basics

Since 1987, New Dawn Treatment Centers has provided a wide range of affordable treatment services for chemical dependency and eating disorders in Sacramento, California. With both inpatient and detox services at multiple locations, NDTC also offers outpatient programs in two different clinics (the second in Citrus Heights). Holistic treatment approaches are incorporated to treat the whole person: mind, body and spirit. Additionally, New Dawn extends a one-year sobriety guarantee to individuals who have completed residential treatment programs, one element of which is comprehensive outpatient tracks, specially created for those who have completed a primary treatment program.

Treatment and Staff

NDTC has two levels of outpatient treatment that vary in intensity. Once a client has been seen for a bio-psycho-social assessment, they are placed in the appropriate level of care. The most structured is the Day Treatment track which provides structure for those who are transitioning from detox or inpatient treatment. For up to five days a week, clients attend a total of six hours of treatment. Group therapy is attended daily and individual therapy is attended weekly. The frequency of attendance is determined by the treatment team based on each client’s acuity. Individualized treatment practices ensure that clients are receiving the appropriate level of care.

All clients in day treatment are regularly drug tested to ensure they remain abstinent. Clients who relapse are not kicked out of treatment, but instead are enrolled in a more intensive level of care.

Most Day Treatment clients step down to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which offers a slightly less intensive but in-depth approach to helping clients advance in their recovery. Group and individual therapy are available five days a week for three hours each session. Sessions are available in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. In addition to therapy, clients attend psychoeducation classes to learn about the nature of addiction with a focus on relapse prevention. Clients typically attend IOP for six to eight weeks in total. Clients are also introduced to 12-step meetings and other support networks that include SMART Recovery and LifeRing.

Special IOP and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) tracks are available for adolescents through NDTC. For up to four nights per week, adolescent clients may attend group and individual therapy with their peers. Program lengths vary from eight to 12 weeks in total depending on progress. Family involvement is emphasized so that young clients can feel supported by their family unit and heal damage caused by active addiction. Adolescents learn how to work towards recovery and learn healthy coping skills. Counselors and staff use evidence-based practices including CBT during tretment.

Dual diagnosis support is also available with medication management and both a psychiatrist and physician are on staff to help clients with co-occurring disorders. All activities are facilitated by LADCs and Master’s-level therapists.

Extras

New Dawn offers free aftercare for life for all alumni of their IOP tracks which typically includes groups and alumni support. Additionally, Yoga classes, Tai Chi and Acupuncture are available, and adolescents participate in Art Therapy and Equine Therapy to support a holistic recovery process.

In Summary

New Dawn Treatment Centers offers holistic outpatient therapy to help adolescents and adults towards their recovery in a safe environment following primary treatment. Tracks are carefully structured and tailored to each individual and their unique needs. Residential options are available for those in need of a more intensive treatment approach, ensuring clients are successful and supported in long-term recovery. Aftercare is available for free and for life for all alumni.
