New Dawn Treatment Centers Review
Serving the community since 1987, New Dawn Treatment Centers offers services for substance abuse, eating disorders and mental health issues. The gender-specific houses are located in the quiet suburbs of Sacramento, allowing clients to be supported in a home-like environment. Using a mix of both evidence-based therapies and an impressive variety of holistic alternatives, this facility has a nice balance between New Age and traditional.
Accommodations and Food
With no more than six people in each house, the environment at New Dawn Treatment Centers is very personalized and intimate. Men and women live in two separate homes, each containing shared bedrooms, living room with a TV, breakfast nook, kitchen and private backyard patio for smoking. The houses are comfortable with basic furniture and decoration. Private rooms are available but at double the regular monthly cost of the program.
While the houses do not offer areas for recreation, clients are able to take daily trips to the local health club, which offers yoga and Tai Chi, as well as free weights and cardio machines.
Nutritious meals are prepared on-site by a professional chef. Female clients can eat in the house or head over to the community dining hall to join the men. For those who have allergies or dietary requests, special needs can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
With treatment split into 21-, 30-, 60- and 90-day plans, clients have the option of deciding how long they wish to spend in residential. While detox is available here, it is provided at a separate six person, gender-specific home. The program typically lasts for five days and costs $3,000. During this time, each client receives case management, 24-hour medical monitoring and medication management. A flat screen television can be found in every room for unlimited viewing pleasure.
Once the treatment plan begins, residents follow an intense schedule of evidence-based therapies. From weekly individual therapy with CBT and DBT to group therapy to family therapy to neurobiology of addiction, substance abuse and mental health issues are hit from every angle. Group topics in the substance abuse program focus heavily on relapse prevention, acceptance and commitment, coping skills and processing while the eating disorder program also addresses body image, empowerment, self-acceptance, nutrition and meal support. While 12-step meetings are not a mandatory part of the program, clients are welcome to attend AA/NA/OA if they choose.
In addition to traditional therapies, this rehab has a great deal of alternative healing options. Dance therapy and yoga help strengthen the mind-body connection, while mindfulness and meditation provide coping skills for the present and future. Acupuncture, art therapy and Qi Gong can help clients relax and tune in with themselves and equine therapy is also offered to teach communication, trust and self-esteem.
For those who wish to continue treatment after they complete the residential program, New Dawn Treatment Centers operates a day program consisting of six hours a day of group and individual therapy, up to five days per week. Once that is completed, a step down into Intensive Outpatient (IOP) can be made, where clients receive therapy for three hours per day, five times a week.
The multidisciplinary staff at New Dawn Treatment Centers includes a psychologist, a medical director, several primary therapists, 24-hour nursing staff, addiction counselors and a variety of holistic practitioners.
In Summary
With a very small client load and an attractive selection of alternative therapies, this program is an affordable option in a state known for pricey rehabs. The treatment is certainly high end.
