Mirror, Inc. Review

Founded in 1972, Mirror, Inc. is non-profit organization based out of Newton, Kansas that provides a wide range of community-focused services, including residential treatment for substance abuse.

Accommodations and Food

The inpatient facility consists of two buildings connected by a central structure which houses the program’s administrative offices and a cafeteria. The interior is dormitory-like and accommodates 25 beds for men and 25 for women, each in separate gender-specific sections.

Both homes have rooms that sleep four clients in bunk beds. The women’s facility also accepts young children to avoid breaking up families and as such, no registered sex-offenders are permitted into the residential program. The compound has a meeting area and playrooms for children, as well as on-site laundry. Staff members provide all meals and snacks with men and women eating separately.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment lasts a minimum of 28 days but can be extended to as long as three months. Though all programs are individualized, treatment is generally based on evidence-based practices using Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and CBT , with group topics covering interpersonal skills and psycho-education. Treatment at Mirror, Inc. is primarily group therapy though individual sessions are also scheduled as-needed. Clients are sometimes referred to outside AA/NA meetings for community and peer support, but the 12-steps are not an integral method of treatment.

A typical day at Mirror, Inc. includes a gathering in the morning for a peer group discussion followed by rotating group and individual therapy throughout the day. Generally, each day clients attend up to four group meetings.

Staff consists of 18 hands-on techs including LACs, LCACs, LMSWs and other Master’s-level counselors. Residents are supervised around the clock with regular breathalyzer and urinalysis tests.

Extras

In addition to residential treatment, Mirror, Inc. offers a range of outpatient programs at several locations throughout Kansas. These programs can also be used as aftercare or step down tracks for clients who have completed residential treatment. Additionally, relapse prevention groups and placement in various sober living homes are available. Treatment for gambling addiction is also available.

Other services include a free Work for Success program for under- or unemployed fathers. This program lasts four weeks and includes a course for personal development, job readiness, interview practice, job applications and resume building. Mirror, Inc. also has an alcohol and drug information school for clients who have received a DUI.

For those transitioning out of correctional facilities, reintegration services are offered, which include on-site prison counseling and placement in halfway houses.

In Summary

Mirror, Inc. is a solid residential program for individuals seeking substance abuse treatment that incorporates a range of evidence based treatment methods. The organizations has comprehensive community outreach services and flexible outpatient programs for continued support. With a focus on giving clients a second chance, Mirror, Inc.’s structured programs and highly-trained staff provide clients a strong foundation for sobriety and long-term recovery.
