Accommodations and Food
Zen is located in a beautiful home surrounded by nearly four acres of gardens and overlooks a mature olive grove. The five bedroom, four bathroom house offers space for an intimate group of up to nine clients. All clients share a room and sleep in a twin bed.
Zen has an on-site cook and a registered dietitian oversees all meals.
Treatment and Staff
A stay at Zen usually lasts 28 days. Upon admission, the clinical team and physician evaluate the incoming client. During the initial seven-day detox period, they monitor clients around the clock and encourage them to rest and heal. Zen has a comprehensive program. It includes doctor’s appointments and medication, one on one psychotherapy sessions, group therapy and 12-step meetings. Zen’s program is unique as it works to uncover the underlying reasons behind the triggers of substance abuse disorder and mental health. Oftentimes clients have undiagnosed co-existing disorders and the substance abuse has simply been used as a coping mechanism.
Zen Wellness Retreat is a Ministry of Health accredited psychiatric, mental health and addiction provider. One of the psychotherapists on staff is recognized as one of the best in his field.
Extras
Holistic measures include two types of yoga, meditation, on-site massage, exercise groups, cranial sacral therapy, art therapy, music therapy and adventure therapy. Residents also enjoy day trips to the forest, pools and beaches.
One of the key elements to maintaining a healthy life in recovery is staying connected. It is important that family is also part of the recovery journey. Consequently, Zen works with loved ones to understand the roles they can play to support a healthy recovery.
Following the 28-day treatment program (primary care), Zen offers four more weeks of secondary care.
It is also closely aligned with Recovery4life, which is a trust that offers sober living in the community. After completing a full treatment program at Zen, guests can stay in the Recovery4life houses for up to a year.
