Dayton OhioThe Basics

Located in Dayton, Ohio, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is one of the largest and most complex in the Air Force, housing the Air Force Institute of Technology and Air Force Material Command. The ADAPT (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment) Program provides Wright-Patterson Air Force Base personnel and their dependents with standard outpatient substance abuse treatment. The ADAPT program has been in operation for over 20 years.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients are given a treatment plan that includes group therapy once or twice a week and individual therapy as-needed. The duration of the program is eight weeks. Clients who need a higher level of care receive referrals to Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) in the area and VA inpatient programs in Ohio and surrounding states.

The treatment team at ADAPT includes Master’s-level therapists such as MSWs, CADCs and nurse practitioners. Clients with co-occurring disorders can receive treatment from the ADAPT team and the base’s medical center behavioral health department for more significant mental health diagnoses and medication management.

Therapy at ADAPT uses the Matrix Model and CBT. While clients are not required to attend 12-step meetings, they are strongly encouraged to do so and are provided with a list of nearby meeting times and locations.

Extras

Family members may attend individual therapy if the client and the clinician believe it would be beneficial. For aftercare, clients who have completed their treatment plan may attend relapse prevention groups on the first Monday and third Friday of each month.

In Summary

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s ADAPT Program provides evidence-based outpatient treatment that features a clinical team experienced in addressing co-occurring disorders. Given the high stress and professional dangers its clients encounter, the ADAPT treatment team will do everything it can to make sure its clients have access to the specialized recovery and treatment resources they require.
