WINGS Adolescent Treatment Center Review
WINGS Adolescent Treatment Center was founded in 2007 and is licensed by the state of Minnesota to provide residential substance abuse treatment for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18. Located in Litchfield, Minnesota, clients have access to large city amenities in Minneapolis, just 70 miles east. The program specifically caters to those with co-occurring disorders.
Food and Accommodations
Clients are accommodated in a large house with beds for 10 women and 10 men in separate gender-specific wings. Each wing has five double-occupancy bedrooms as well as common rooms for each group. Common areas are furnished with comfortable couches, a TV and a Foosball table for recreation.
Additionally, the facility has a classroom for seminars and group therapy and two counselor offices for private individual therapy. There is a fully-equipped kitchen and a dining room where meals are prepared and served three times a day. Healthy options such as salads, soups, sandwiches, vegetable dishes and proteins are served.
Treatment and Staff
Upon admission, clients participate in a series of interviews, evaluations and assessments to determine the level of care needed, the frequency of therapy sessions needed and the type of therapy most beneficial to their recovery. An individualized treatment plan is developed which guides each client as they progress through the program.
All plans combine individual and group therapy utilizing CBT and DBT in process groups, family education and therapy, 12-step meetings and educational lectures. Other therapies include EMDR trauma therapy and specialized treatment for co-occurring disorders. The length of the program varies, but there is a minimum of a 45-day stay.
The staff at WINGS consists of RNs, LPCs and CADCs.
Extras
In addition to the structured daily schedule of therapy, counseling and education, clients are also given time for recreation, chores and personal time. Recreational activities are meant to help clients develop life skills and cultivate interpersonal relationships without alcohol or drugs.
Aftercare planning and treatment is also included which consists of one-hour sessions every evening at the facility for six to eight weeks.
