Windsor Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine has been serving clients in the Cleveland, Ohio area for over 20 years. The facility offers both inpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs led by a staff of licensed and board-certified medical and addiction specialists. Clients receive comprehensive medical care in tandem with a 12-step approach to recovery.

Accommodations and Food

Windsor is housed in the West Medical Center, so the decor is not especially colorful, but the essentials, like bedding and toiletries, are provided for. Residents are allowed to bring seven days worth of appropriate clothing, personal non-alcohol toiletries, hairdryers and curling irons, and cosmetics. Smoking is allowed but residents are not allowed to bring personal bedding, food and beverages or any electronic devices. There is access to hospital phones so clients can make long-distance calls.

Treatment and Staff

Two levels of inpatient care are provided to clients to ensure specific individualized care. The inpatient detox program is for adult clients who need medical help and supervision during withdrawal, while the Clinically Managed Rehabilitation Program (CMRP) is for adult clients who are at risk of relapse and need a more structured environment. In the CMRP, clients are under the supervision of an addictionologist, the nursing staff and various therapeutic counselors. Clients benefit from peer support in groups and work with chemical dependency counselors on individual plans for relapse prevention. Windsor takes a multi-disciplinary approach to recovery, drawing on a range of therapeutic toolsindividual therapy, group therapy, the 12-step model, family programming, recreation and art therapy. The length of stay may vary slightly from client to client, but the typical duration of inpatient care is one month.

Windsor’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is offered both during the day and at night to accommodate most clients’ schedules. IOP is a step down from full-time inpatient care and offers a heavy schedule of group therapy and education, meeting three times per week for six weeks. Twelve-step participation is highly encouraged and random drug tests are conducted. After completion of the IOP, clients are able to attend an aftercare program that meets once per week.

Extras

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is offered to clients who do not require inpatient treatment, but who need more short-term, intensive treatment than outpatient services offer. The program meets five days per week for clients with mental health and/or chemical dependency issues.

Suboxone is offered as part of Windsor’s Adult Chemical Dependency Partial Program to treat individuals with opiate addiction. An adult dual diagnosis program is provided for clients with both mental illness and chemical dependency.

In Summary

Although the accommodations at Windsor Laurelwood Center may be minimal, they provide many essentials and have less strict rules than other facilities. Under 24-hour supervision, clients recover using a variety of tools including the 12 steps.
