The Basics
Just 25 minutes northeast of Richmond, Virginia in the town of Hanover, Williamsville Wellness Center is a residential treatment facility that also offers both standard outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Treatment is geared toward men and women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders, eating disorders and process addictions such as gambling. Williamsville employs a client-centered approach to care that seeks to heal the “whole person” rather than merely treating symptoms. To this end, the facility maintains a mind-body-spirit approach that integrates a number of therapeutic methods including individual and group therapy, holistic models, online education and assessments, evidence-based practices and technically innovative methods like biofeedback. Twelve-step is the cornerstone of outpatient programming.
Treatment and Staff
Williamsville Wellness offers a comprehensive IOP ideal for clients transitioning out of a residential program as well as for individuals that require consistent treatment but cannot commit to inpatient. IOP allows clients to engage in intensive treatment without taking time away from work or school. Clients entering the IOP undergo an intake evaluation that helps the team determine the most effective personalized treatment plan customized to the specific needs of the individual.
The Williamsville IOP utilizes a multi-theoretical, mind-body-spirit approach to care that provides truly individualized care programming through the integration of a number of therapies including individual and group therapy, holistic methods, evidence-based practices, family systems therapy as well as anger management and the 12-step model. The facility implements several innovative technological methods as well, including an entire online portal where clients perform cognitive exercises and watch video lectures. In addition, clients are fit with a smartwatch that provides staff with a physiological break-down with heart rate and sleep patterns. This information is used by the facility to further customize treatment.
The IOP starts with an accelerated program that runs four days a week for six weeks. Working with a team of therapists, clients engage in individual and group sessions rooted in CBT, DBT and EMDR. Programming also includes the 12-step model, holistic therapies like art therapy and mindfulness practice as well as a concentration on nutrition and exercise. During off days, clients remain engaged through the IOP Smart portal.
The WWC team is comprised of licensed counselors, PhDs, peer counselors, therapists, art therapists and addiction specialists. Medication management cannot be facilitated.
Extras
Clients are encouraged to wear Fitbit watches throughout their treatment. Through this, the facility is in a unique position to teach clients how to take care of themselves, through proper sleep and coping with stress. Physiological data is used by the team and, if necessary, addressed during individual sessions.
