Inexpensive rehabs orangeburg south carolinaWilliam J McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility Review

Located in Orangeburg, South Carolina, the William J McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility offers both outpatient and residential addiction treatment to young people who are 12 to 17 (18 if still in high school).  Founded in 1993 as a part of the Tri-County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, its programs are certified by The Joint Commission and stress family involvement, behavior modification and life skills development.

Accommodations and Food

The residential program has a total of 15 beds: eight for male clients and seven for females. Rooms come equipped with dressers and closet space and are shared with one other same-sex client. Three meals a day are provided by on-site chefs with accommodations made for dietary restrictions.

Treatment and Staff

After an initial intake, clients work with the staff to develop individualized treatment plans comprised of group and individual therapy using evidence-based practices such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Clients receive case management and family therapy as needed. Psychiatric nursing and medication management is available to clients with co-occurring disorders.

While outpatient treatment is similar to residential, there are some specific programs available. The Bridge is designed for teenagers, ages 13 to 17, who are transitioning out of juvenile detention and want help with education, employment and family issues. This program is more intensive than standard outpatient treatment and includes additional individual counseling.

Collaboration for Success is a grant-funded program that uses the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA), an evidence-based practice that helps kids develop better family, social and educational and employment skills.  This program meets weekly for one hour and lasts 10 to 12 weeks. This is followed by Assertive Continuing Care, where clients meet with their therapist twice a month for 12 additional weeks. This phase helps solidify treatment and smooth out the transitioning process.

Finally, Connecting the Dots is a parenting program that is a component of all adolescent outpatient tracks, helping parents find healthy ways to communicate with their children.

Staff consists of LPCs, CADCs and other Master’s-level clinicians, with a staff-to-client ratio of one-to-three.

Extras

Additional services include aftercare planning for clients who have completed primary care, which sometimes consists of continuing with treatment at a stepped down rate.

In Summary

In all, William J McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility offers well-rounded residential and outpatient programs for adolescent boys and girls. Using a variety of evidence-based practices within its individual, group and family counseling sessions, as well as additional support for those with co-occurring disorders, the caring staff guides children through the recovery process and helps them develop an aftercare plan for ongoing success.
