The Basics

The Wichita Fellowship Club in Wichita, Kansas was founded by Jim James in the late 1960s. Created based on the principles that got James sober in a program in California, Wichita Fellowship Club offers men and women a sober living house, on-site 12-step support and a number of recreational activities and outreach programs. Wichita Fellowship Club is a caring and supportive atmosphere for those who are willing to get and remain sober.

Accommodations and Amenities

The residential facility at Wichita Fellowship Club, 18th St House, is a beautiful, multi-story Victorian style home that accommodates up to 45 men and women. The bedrooms are all dorm style with the men and women sleeping in separate quarters of the house. There are several common areas throughout the facility, which is quite spacious and in a quiet, family friendly neighborhood with a large backyard.

There are three meals a day that are cooked on site by staff, some of which are former members of the fellowship.

Rules and Regulations

This program is operated under the pretense of “tough love” and expects those who are participating to be accountable for themselves and partake in all the events and activities that are offered for them. There are daily AA meetings at the house that are open to all the residents, some women’s only meetings, Big Book study groups and step study meetings. The house is self supporting, and clients have to either find a financial sponsor or get a job that pays for the utilities and contribute to the program as a whole.

Extras

The 101 Club is a sober country club that was dreamt up by Jim James. The club offers 80 acres of rural recreation that includes tents for camping, swimming pools, fishing, paddle boats, softball tournaments and community room that hosts regular pot luck dinners and Sunday evening bingo games. Spacious and sprawling, the grounds also feature an amphitheater, places for RVs to park and a shower area. The 101 Club is designed for clients and their families to have a good time connecting with each other and enjoying sobriety together.

In Summary

The Wichita Fellowship is a place where those who are truly seeking a life free of drugs and alcohol can live together, inspire each other and learn how to have fun while being sober. It’s a loving place that is inspiring to its clients and those care for them. It’s also a great resource for the Wichita recovery community at large.
