The Basics

Certified interventionists and recovery coaches, Kelly Chambliss and Frances Murchison founded Whole Families Intervention Services after being sober for several decades. Their goal is to help adolescents and adults in Wilmington, North Carolina discover sobriety and begin the healing process. Interventions are for anyone struggling with addiction, eating disorders or co-occurring disorders. Whole Families Intervention Services facilitates a holistic approach along with evidence-based tactics. In addition to interventions, Whole Families Intervention Services also offers sober coaching and companionship, align with post treatment support.

The Background

Chambliss and Murchison together have over 50 years of sobriety between them. After they both became sober they became dedicated to helping other addicts and their families. They aid in the initial recovery process and connect individuals to the proper treatment facilities.

The Approach

Whole Families Intervention Services designs individual recovery plans based on their clients and their family members’ need. They forge personal relationships with family members during the process and become trusted resources for everyone involved. This is especially important when it comes to adolescent interventions. The adolescent intervention experience is different than an adult’s—their needs differ greatly due to not having the same amount of loss as an adult addict. It aims to help guide them in the right direction to stop their addiction before it fully forms.

While the adult intervention offers a treatment plan that was pre-selected by the family members and intervention team, the adolescent track allows for the client to choose where they would like to receive treatment, which gives them a sense of control over their situation, and usually encourages their participation.

Typically, the interventionist meets with the family in person one or two times as they put together the intervention plan and select treatment centers. However, they do make themselves available to the family members in order to answer any questions or concerns they may have leading up to the intervention.

Post-Intervention and Summary

After the intervention the family members are often referred to support services for themselves, like Al-Anon, or therapy. After the client returns from treatment Whole Families Intervention Services is able to assist in post treatment services and keeps in contact with the client at family for at least 90 days. They offer recovery coaching and a few holistic options, like exercises, mindfulness and meditation. As the early stages of recovery are the trickiest for clients and their families, Whole Families Intervention Services does offer practical assistance for everyone involved.
