Accommodations
Situated on 35 acres of rolling green Donegal hills and shadowed by the Blue Stack Mountains, White Oaks provides a very serene environment. The grounds are thoroughly unique with a strong spiritual component. There is a Celtic Prayer Garden as well as an IOSAS Centre that is home to the “White Oaks Acorn Project.”
Residents enjoy a welcoming residence, with the look of an upscale hotel and the feel of a quaint home. There are plenty of amenities including spacious common areas, therapy rooms, a chapel and an on-site fitness center. With only 12 beds, clients enjoy an atmosphere that is communal without sacrificing privacy. Residents have roommates and bedrooms are equipped with two full-sized beds, an en suite bathroom and stunning views, as well as basic furnishings.
Treatment and Staff
White Oaks provides a treatment approach that integrates classic therapeutic methods like individual and group therapy into the structure of the 12-step model. This approach was originally developed by the Hazeldon Foundation, and offers a course of action to empower clients to succeed in their recovery journey. Following a thorough assessment, clients engage in the residential program. White Oaks then assigns each resident with a primary counselor that guides them through the process. In addition to the individual and group therapy, White Oaks utilizes a vast array of holistic methods like yoga, drama, art, gardening, music and crafts. Residents are also encouraged to attend AA, NA and Gamblers Anonymous support meetings while in treatment.
Family involvement is a key component to the success of a sustainable long-term recovery. White Oaks involves clients’ families from the beginning. Initially, the family assists the staff by providing a realistic account of how the addiction had manifested in their loved one’s every day life prior to treatment. In addition, White Oaks provides support for the family throughout the recovery. With the help of professional counselors, loved ones of those in treatment work through the anger, loss and regret that often come with substance use.
The White Oaks team is comprised of counselors, primary therapists and an aftercare coordinator as well as a volunteer team.
Extras
Visitors are allowed from 2 to 4 pm on Sundays. In addition, White Oaks offers a family program on Wednesdays.
