As part of a large network of facilities in Pennsylvania, White Deer Run Lancaster offers detox and short-term residential care for men 18 and older dealing with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. As a member of the Acadia Healthcare network, White Deer Run facilities are a part of a larger group of behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs. Accommodations and Food
This residential facility is located in a quiet historic neighborhood of Lancaster lined with tall trees and surrounded by well-manicured lawns and flowers. The residence is a 27 bed, Victorian-style home with a spacious floor plan. The house includes living rooms with several couches and chairs, fireplaces throughout the home, a kitchen and dining room with several tables and meeting room that are simply furnished with chair around the perimeter of the space. The front of the home offers a covered porch where clients can sit after a long day and relax, and the back yard has a sitting area and picnic table where clients are permitted to smoke, which is covered by a canopy to protect from rain and snow.
There are three nutritious meals served a day and healthy snacks that are readily available like fruit, veggies and nuts.
Treatment and Staff
At White Deer Run of Lancaster, men can complete the detox process in a safe and comfortable environment under the supervision of qualified and experienced medical personnel. Depending on the unique needs of the individual, detox usually lasts from five to seven days, after which he can transition directly into the residential rehab program.
The individualized treatment offered through White Deer Run combines traditional approaches, like the 12-step philosophy, with holistic methods like art and music therapy. The core element of the program is group therapy that addresses gender-specific issues with topic themes changing weekly. There are weekly individual therapy sessions where the client and therapist work on personal treatment goal plans and begin to form an aftercare plan.
Group and individual focus is on relapse prevention, anger management, and relationships with family and loved ones, and addressing emotions. Behavior Modification, Stages of Change and expressive therapy modalities are also utilized in this program along with classes and lectures, and focusing on the root of issues and disease of addiction. The clients attend AA meetings regularly to help with creating a support system and obtaining a sponsor and work on building a collection of personal recovery tools.
The staff of this location includes Master’s-level therapists and medical staff that are LPNs, CADCs, LCSWs and RN.
Extras
There are recreational activities regularly at this location and exercise equipment available, along with Tai Chi and yoga. Clients are also offered a variety of holistic and healing amenities like reflexology, aromatherapy and Reiki.
A family program is offered on some weekends that include psychoeducation, lectures and counseling. The aftercare planning can result in the client finding a sober living or attending outpatient, both of which are offered by White Deer Run.

The program offered at the White Deer Run Lancaster men’s only facility provides a judgment-free and supportive environment for it’s clientele. It addresses some of the deeply rooted issues common to many men in recovery. The aim is for the client to leave this facility armed with the tools to maintain sobriety and start to rebuild their lives without of drugs and alcohol.
