Whispering Oaks Lodge Review
Whispering Oaks Lodge is a dual diagnosis and substance abuse program for adults in Louisiana. Programming includes detox and residential treatment along with outpatient tracks. Outpatient treatment includes an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and aftercare. Outpatient clients are able to attend treatment in two locations, Lafayette and Shreveport, on a flexible schedule. Programming includes the 12 steps, spiritual counseling, evidence-based therapies, and psychoeducation in both group and individual therapy settings.
Treatment and Staff
The IOP in both locations runs for six weeks. Clients meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Participants don’t have to first complete the residential level of care prior to the IOP. Potential clients who would benefit the most from this treatment program are typically those who live in a stable housing environment, have possibly experienced relapses in the past, acknowledge the need for support and change, and are not at risk of experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
Individuals seeking recovery here can expect a holistic and individualized approach. Days consist of group therapy and one individual session per week. Therapeutic approaches are CBT, EMDR, DBT, didactic and behavioral modification.
Dual diagnosis clientele have access to medication management in addition to standard treatment protocols.
Staff at Whispering Oaks Lodge are LCSW, LAC, CAC and an established spiritual counselor. There are also medical staff members including a psychiatrists and nurses who oversee any medication assessments and management.
Extras
In addition to the treatment programs, Whispering Oaks Lodge offers intervention services. Staff works with clients families to establish boundaries while addressing the addictive behaviors and providing treatment solutions.
There are some holistic treatment components during the residential phase that may be available at certain times during the outpatient track. They include equine therapy and canine therapy.
Clients have access to aftercare at both outpatient facilities. There are group sessions for graduates of the program, along with some sober social functions that the members organize.

The outpatient programs offer an alternative to the residential treatment at Whispering Oaks Lodge for clients who are not able to attend treatment full time while acknowledging their need for support. This level of care offers the same treatment protocols as the inpatient track but requires less of a time commitment. The main component of this program entails clients being truly ready to live a better life in recovery.
