Wesley Mission Review
Wesley Mission of Sydney, Australia is a not-for-profit, community based program. It offers a number of services including adolescent and adult substance abuse and mental health care. Wesley Mission also offers inpatient treatment at Wesley Hospital. This program provides faith based treatment in two different locations.
Programming uses the 12 steps along with evidence-based therapy and treatments like electroconvulsive therapy. These treatment options are for clients who are suffering from addiction, trauma, eating disorders and a variety of behavioral health issues.
Accommodations and Food
Wesley Hospital has two facilities, one in Ashfield and Kogarah. These hospitals offer 38 and 30 beds in each. In both locations clients have TVs in their bedrooms, and on-site kitchen and dining room, work out facilities and game room.
The campus contains a chapel and outdoor seating area within the gardens. It’s worth mentioning, both housing and treatment spaces are under the same roof. Consequently, clients stay on the premises during their stay.
Clients eat three meals a day in the dining room.
Treatment and Staff
The inpatient program lasts about three to four weeks. Treatment includes daily group therapy and medication management. At the assessment before admission, some clients go through detox before starting the main program.
Treatment focuses on behavioral modification and relapse prevention. CBT and skills development are essential elements of each client’s program. During group therapy clients explore how their addiction has affected their lives and the lives of their families. They learn about motivation for change, working on problem solving skills and stress management.
Wesley Mission folds psychoeducation into everyday treatment. This entails clients learning about the cycle of addiction. In addition, this addresses the relationship between trauma, mental health and addiction.
Dual diagnosis support offers specialized program options. This track is for clients dealing with depression, anxiety and several mood disorders.
Staff of Wesley Mission addiction treatment includes psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, addiction therapists and clinical psychologists.
Extras
The eating disorder program is only offered at the Ashfield location. Other specialty programs include a veterans-only treatment to address trauma related issues and PTSD.
Inpatient clients have an on-site gym and a personal trainer.
