Wesley Mission Day Program Review
The Wesley Mission in Sydney Australia has dual diagnosis and addiction services for adults and adolescents. Programming includes both a short term detox and inpatient care along with an intensive outpatient track. Treatment at Wesley Mission is based on Christian faith and offers 12-step support, evidence-based therapy approaches and holistic measures.
The outpatient program is a structured day treatment that is entirely bespoke to the client’s needs. The day program takes place in two locations: Wesley Hospital Kogarah and Ashfield.
Treatment and Staff
The day program follows the month long residential program. Treatment begins with a referral from a medical professional. During treatment clients are able to communicate with their existing general practitioner or mental health professional. Treatment includes medication management for dual diagnosis clientele. Therapy methods are CBT during group therapy, and there are relapse prevention workshops and classes. In addition, the day program expects clients to attend AA or NA meetings on a regular basis.
The day program only takes place once a week. The intention of this treatment program is the clients solidify their newly learned coping skills and relapse prevention knowledge. Wesley Mission offers the day program year-round. There is a focus on improving self esteem and communication skills. The staff incorporates psychoeducation within every stage of treatment. Programming emphasizes overall physical and mental wellness through the importance of healthy eating and exercise.
Clients continue to address past experiences that led to their substance abuse during therapy. They address behavior modification and recognizing triggers every treatment day.
The day program has an experienced staff of medical professional and mental health clinicians. They are psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and psychiatric nurses. Furthermore, addiction specialists facilitate educational sessions at both locations.
Extras
There is an eating disorder outpatient treatment at the Ashfield facility. There are two treatment programs offered for clients with eating disorders.
