Lantana FloridaThe Basics

Wellington Retreat is an upscale outpatient and detox facility located in Lantana, Florida near Palm Beach. Founded in 2010 by addiction psychiatrist Dr. Robert Moran, Wellington’s detox programs include a long-term Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) opiate detox program and a perinatal detox program in which Wellington works with the client’s obstetrician. Its outpatient programs include a Partial-Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care, with dedicated groups for dual diagnosis support and adolescent treatment.

Dr. Moran is a graduate of Trinity College and Mount Sinai Medical School and previously served as Medical Director of Putnam Hospital Center’s PHP and Carmel Psychological Chemical Dependency Program in Carmel, New York. In addition to substance abuse treatment, Wellington is licensed to treat significant mental health disorders.

Treatment and Staff

PHP clients attend group and individual therapy each weekday, receiving up to 25 hours of treatment weekly. IOP clients attend groups three times a week and have one-on-one sessions once a week. Standard outpatient clients attend group therapy once or twice each week and have individual therapy as-needed.

Clients typically enter treatment at the PHP and IOP levels and step-down as they progress in their recovery. The duration of each track depends on client needs, but most treatment plans last 30 to 90 days. Clients using Suboxone to treat opiate addiction plan their long-term dosing schedule with their physician.

The treatment team at Wellington includes physicians, Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors including LMHCs, LCSWs and Certified Addiction Professionals (CAPs), art therapists, tutors and vocational counselors. Therapy uses a variety of evidence-based practices such as CBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and the experimental depression treatment Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). The treatment team encourages clients to attend 12-step meetings for peer support and uses the 12-step framework in counseling.

Gender-specific groups are offered as are groups and individual therapy for clients with co-occurring disorders. Wellington makes sure that LGBT+ clients feel comfortable discussing their sexual orientation and history in group and individual therapy.

Extras

Wellington provides a family weekend each month during which family members can attend groups and lectures on addiction education and recovery support. It has an on-site computer lab to facilitate clients’ job searches and offers all clients smoking cessation services. Wellington’s Alumni Association enables clients to connect with one another for on-going support.

Additionally, Wellington staff believes that goal-setting and personal achievement are important aspects of recovery. It offers clients vocational counseling and help with interview and job search skills.

In Summary

Wellington Retreat offers clients several levels of outpatient care, with a specialized treatment track for adolescents and dedicated groups for dual-diagnosis support. It provides holistic treatment that addresses medical, psychological and social aspects of addiction and works to ensure its treatment environment is welcoming to the LGBT+ community. With its wide-range of approaches, inclusive atmosphere and experienced treatment team, Wellington Retreat might be an effective choice for those who’ve been unsuccessful in previous attempts at sobriety.
